you have to also allow discussion of the loss of fauna on the barrier islands. Former islands teeming with mangroves are now completely gone

Again, I really don't think you can isolate BP as the sole reason for these things. There are many factors at play, and just find it really hard to pin it on any one thing.

What's going on here? Not sure that I've heard this mentioned.

Nobody is saying BP is the sole reason. That's a strawman that BP is setting up.

I don't know, WWL in New Orleans has been running a series of segments during their news broadcasts leading up to the anniversary of the spill, and they've pretty much pinned it all on BP. They've stated that these islands/wetlands are being eroded much faster due to the oil. In fact, they showed a shoreline and basically said it has eroded almost 20' in a few years since the spill leading the viewer to assume it's all because of the oil. I just find a lot of this reporting to be disingenuous and one sided pushing the viewer to one conclusion.

A lot of that has to do with the diversion projects and big influx of freshwater.

meh, who cares? Jobs and oil company profits way more important than the environment and a few dolphins.

Besides, we can't eat dolphins.

He said as far as the specks and shrimp the freshwater diversions are having a big affect especially the larval stage for the shrimp.

that's news to me (not the Shrimp stuff, but the Speck stuff)

I don't remember the Spotted Seatrout stock assessment mentioning diversions as a cause for speck population decreases

Your not going to, let just say the company line has to be towed.

So, you refuse to believe that oil kills plants? Or is it that you refuse to believe that stable root systems resist erosion? It isn't a huge logical leap. It also isn't anywhere close to pinning it all on BP.

Well in that case then yea .

I thought he was the one working for one of the firms doing the projects. Must be another poster.

And is there a pop decrease or are the fish in different areas than normally?

We didn't get that in depth, touched on the things I said earlier but was breif.

stock assessments are done statewide (not on a basin level...will change once the LA CREEL system get enough data), but the population has been relatively stable.

You have no fricking idea how many animals really were killed. Maybe in another ten years or so I will talk about it on here when I am old enough I dont give a damn what they do to me.

The whole fricking thing is a big white wash and some of you on here know exactly why. Bp got off light
