A group of us will be in Grand Isle the first weekend of May and we want to book a fishing charter for specs/reds one morning. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

Laid Back Charters

Capt. Frank is top notch. Been with him 3 times. Caught fish and he is laid back and a good fellow.

Make sure the guide knows spots where dolphins don't frequent, they scare trout.

I second Cap'n Frank. He is definitely good people. Been fishing with him quite a few times and have called him while out on my own. Not many captains will help you out but he put me on some fish that time!

Thanks for the input, gentlemen. I contacted Captain Frank and he is available so that's who we are going to book.

Back in the day it was CHERECE charters run by Rene Rice…. To have a little fun ask him how many tanks you can bring along for the charter…. Then hold phone about 2’ from ear he didn’t like divers much.
I think it was bought out and is run by someone else now.

IIRC, that is because one of his good buddies died while diving. I can't recall his name for the life of me.

I did not know he had a friend die while diving… chances are if you dive someone you know will have died.
The real reason I Said Rene is he had a running feud w/ divers for years, it almost came to blows on a number of times. Many times we would be diving at a platform (we were there 1st), Rene would show up and have no regard for the divers in the water, pull into the rig beside the dive boat, not ask if divers were in even though we had a flag out, and chew us out every chance he had. The crew I dove w/ never dove a platform when a boat was fish w/o asking if it was OK. Rene would run us off every chance he had, we were viewed as competition he didn’t like. Could he fish yep, he had a good rep that way but he viewed the platforms as his and didnt want to share

Rene should have quit fishing around 1989. He was mean then, but he pretty much hated any cleint that wasn't a regular. He just burned out, it happens.
