Went up to Attala County on Monday to pull cards and make a noon to dark sit. The two original shooters I had been seeing were still running around plus a new 10 point. I hustled to the location I was going to hunt but got pushed out at 2 by the lightning.

Yesterday, with the west winds I set up in a 60 yard wide pine/hardwood funnel between a fenced in graveyard and 5 ft chain link fence surrounding the neighboring property.

I noticed a few new rubs and a huge active scrape in this funnel so I figured I'd have a good shot at seeing something moving between the thinning to my south and the virgin pine to my north.

I needed to take a leak so at 745 I stood up in the climber, scanned the area real well, and stretched. I then bent over to dig my pee bottle out of my bag and then heard chsssh chssh chssh. First thought was squirrels but with as wet as the leaf and pine litter was no squirrel would be making that much noise.

Again, chssh chssh chssh. I knew it had to be a deer. I grabbed the 308, double checked scope for fog, made sure it was on lowest zoom, and threw the safety.

I looked up and I saw the curved main beams of what I thought was that big 10 hovering just above the ground as the buck did the infamous 'trot a few steps and stop to smell the ground' dance move so common during the rut.

I settled my rifle in the small hole directly in front of my tree and let him come. He never knew I was there.

Through my scope I saw his nise, his head and rack, his neck, and the shoulder. I released the energy of the the winchester 150 grain power point into this buck and saw his body wrinkle as the power of the bullet passed through him. I watched him as he clumsily ran his final 55 yards and crash in his final resting spot.

What a blessing this was!

I had sprayed my boots well with regular Tinks doe urine and figure he was following my trail that I came in on.

I drove an hour home and back just to get my two sons to help me recover the buck.
