Caught this fatty today. Got the full catch on video, though excuse the shaky camera work. Hard to catch venomous serpents while trying to film with an iphone in one hand. This one was pretty cooperative.

That looks like exactly the kind of place I’d expect to find a cottonmouth and I have just the right tools for when I encounter them.

Not to tell you how to handle yourself, but why not use a GoPro and keep both hands free? How many times you been bit?

I’ve caught 49 venomous in the past 2 years - no bites. And yes, I definitely need to use a GoPro if I’m going to video catches. I have one - I just need to get a proper head mount and learn how to use it again. Haven’t touched it in the past year after using it on the track in my car. Catching time is winding down for the year, but come Spring I’ll be properly equipped.

ETA: Trust me - the whole time I was recording with the same hand that I was handling my pinner with, I was mumbling to myself, “This is how you get bit, dumbass.”

A head mount makes for unaturually high viewpoint. Although awkward as hell, if you dont need voice, mouth bite is better viewpoint.

Warning annoying commentary, but use of mouth bite: LINK

When you dropped it at the end I thought it had a chance to whip around and get you. Yikes

I felt kind of bad about practically tossing him back down, but my finger on the right side was slipping off the corner and going under his jaw a bit. Had to drop it quick. They are pretty slow to react right now with the temperatures being cooler, especially with it having been in the cool water. Those body temperatures are dropping.

Cool, thanks for sharing. It amazes me how many "manly men" on this board are terrified of little snakes.
