I shot them for a sporting clay event a month ago and I liked them. Had no issues whatsoever.

I went from a 1oz 7 1/2 shot to a 1 1/8oz 8 shot and improved my sporting clays score...take that fwiw. You pay a little more though.

1-oz. 1350 ft/sec is not a light load (as relates to recoil).

A light 1-ounce load will be around 1200 ft/sec.

Monarch is the Academy brand, right?

Yeah. I've used their brass target rounds in 9, .45, and .223 for shooting paper with no problems in the past. No experience with the shotshells though.

I tend to agree, just going by how they labeled it.

You think recoil will be comparable to a 1 1/8 oz load at ~1200-1250 FPS?

Use something that has a speed equal to what you normally use so as not to mess up your lead.

I shoot a 20ga w/ 7/8 oz

I'm not sure -- but here's a link to an article that will come close to giving you an answer. LINK 1

You can also do the calculations yourself to compare various loads: LINK 2

Monarch is fine. But buying the cheapest can be risky. The problem I have seen and experienced is the brass expanding upon discharge and getting stuck. Never seen this happen with monarch, estate, federal, Remington, Winchester, even the super cheap speed loads. Having the best part of the dove shoot pass while you try to get a spent shell out will cure you from "cheapest available" when it is some brand you never heard of and can't rely upon.

/I've shot them at skeet. They're fine. Might shoot some this weekend if that's all academy has.
