What in the wide wide world of sports is going on in here.

Had a long day at the BC Spillway and got home spent a little time with the kids and watched the game so this is my first time on the thread all day. Been a wild one I see.

Boob pic on the help board.

He was into some dooms day shite on here but talk about self inflicted wounds.

So its old news now but Morganza is not opening as I stated was a good possibility 2 weeks ago and got bashed to no end by boob boy. Well still plenty of good data to collect and maybe a chance for another slug of water to come down in a few months, but hopefully the river will have a good chance to fall in the mean time.

I guess I will move the camp to leeville and start fishing!

I feel bad for all of the people that spent time moving furniture and cattle, it looked like a mass exodus on the levee to krotz springs on Friday and Saturday. I probably passed 25-30 trucks heading into the camp and I normally see 1 or 2.

The Atchafalaya came up about 2 feet from Saturday to Sunday, I am assuming that was from the Old river control structure?

While the Red supposedly crested days ago, it's actually gone up a tiny bit lately. It's not projected to start falling for days, and even then, that fall is very small and slow. Through the end of the projection, it's not even 1'.

Exactly!! I was trying to tell everyone to pump the brakes a bit. This rise was gonna be on that borderline and that looking at historical peaks from 1993, 1997, 2008 that Morganza may stay closed. I understand the need to give people time to get there stuff out but now watch everyone will be bitching at the CORPS because they wasted so much time and money to clear the spillway with no opening.

A lose/lose for the CORPS really.

Today's update:
quote:

-The Bayou Chene barge closure project continues to move forward to reduce the backwater impacts and protect more than 100,000 residents and several large industrial complexes in St Mary, Terrebonne, Lower St Martin, Lafourche and Iberville parishes. Through the PL 84-99 program, the New Orleans District will provide and install 20,000 tons of rock as part of the closure project in support of the State of LA, St Mary Parish? and the St Mary Levee District. The commission staff will travel to Morgan City tomorrow to witness the ongoing flood fight efforts at Avoca Island and to get a closer view and understanding of the Bayou Chene closure.

quote:

The New Orleans District temporarily restricted the Sidney A. Murray Hydropower plant to a daily flow allocation of 125,000 cfs maximum, effective today, Jan 11.. This temporary restriction is intended to limit/eliminate flow curtailments to ensure safe and effective operation of the Old River Control Complex during the current high water event.

-Based on recent revisions in the forecasts at Red River Landing, our watershed management team has prevised the peak flow through the Bonnet Carre Spillway to 190k cfs. We expect the structure to remain open for
approximately three weeks to around Jan. 28-29 timeframe.

The bonnet carre really isn't rising fast. Looks like panic for nothing my opinion.

Looks like the auxiliary structure with the MS river in the background, looking towards the east.

The flowing water in the foreground is coming from the low sill structure.

My parents/brothers did this. But it was worth it had something happened. AFter having been through it in 2011 they weren't taking chances this time and had to do it while help was available. Only a time loss for them and of course having to store it and move it back.

But worth it in the long run for them. They weren't maniacs about it but thought it was the prudent thing to do. Camp is near the 3 Rivers area north of Simmsport I believe by about 20 miles.

That was the Red Camp (deer/squirrel) camp. Guess they'll just spend time at the Yellow Camp (duck camp).

Lot of winter/spring rain ahead of us. I wouldn't be too quick to move back in camps just yet. There still may be an opening later this flood season

There is barely enough snow and ice up there right now to make a different if it all melted.

I am guessing that a Spring flood is less likely due to the fact that the water is usually locked up right now, then comes down all at once on melt instead of a gradual release like we are seeing now. Then again, I have zero knowledge of this stuff.
