I didn't think it was possible to be convicted and sentenced that quickly! Good job to the judicial system on that one.

Not that I have any sympathy for this a-hole at all, but how do you get convicted of two counts of attempted murder and end up sentenced to three life terms? Two life terms, maybe. But three?

This is what I see as one of the major problems with this country.
This POS wasn't afraid to go back to jail. If the system was set up properly (in my mind) and people were absolutely terrified to go so many problem/crimes would go away.

What was his felony conviction for? I don't believe felony convictions should always lead to permanent loss of 2A rights.
Also, why were they searching these two guys?

They were initially stopped to see if they had permits to be on the WMA. Driver consented to search. Moronic, convicted felon passenger had a stolen pistol on him, so he felt he had no alternative except to start shooting.
frick three life sentences. This guy ought to be put down for being too stupid to roam around in public.

“I was just minding my own business, you know what I’m saying, wasn’t doing no drugs or nothing like that. I had a gun on me, yeah, that I’m a convicted felon, and the situation, they way the situation happened, I mean, I’m not going ... either way it goes I’m over with. That could have been avoided right there, but that was just the heat of the moment,” Hust, 29, said, according to The Advertiser. “He put his hand on me, when he went to seeing what I had on me, and I mean that was my reaction, and I mean, it wasn’t the best, but either way it goes, I’m over with ... get caught with a gun, 15 to 20 years ... anyway it goes that’s the rest of my life in prison.

Not really sure what he is trying to say but he's was worried about going to prison because he had a gun so he shoots the LDWF agent...
This is one thing I don't understand about the criminal mind. They seem, a lot of times, to make a bad situation worse. I guess that's why they're criminals.

If the convicted felon wasn't carrying a gun - a stolen gun, in this case - none of this happens. I don't know what the guy was into or if he had enemies on the street that he felt he had to protect himself from, but I guess he figured 20-30 years wasn't much different to him than a life sentence. If you read his statement, it seems apparent that he isn't very articulate and probably not very bright.
Mandatory minimum sentences don't stop criminals from being criminals, but they can raise the threat level to LEOs. At least that's what happened in this case.

Exactly, it needs to be an "eye for an eye" then these POS will stop and think some of these acts through.
