I've been out of town for a week and returned yesterday morning (June 30). I've been living on the Tchefuncte near the lake for a few years and have never seen the water this low. I've seen it get low when a north wind blows for a few days in the winter, but never anything like this in the summer.

Have there been unusual winds in the last few days? I've looked at a few sites that show historical wind and nothing seems to far out of the ordinary.

I noticed the river level on the Killian gauge on the Tickfaw on the news last night was as low as I remember seeing it in the decade plus since I bought my camp, but have no idea why. It's rained into that basin a good bit over the past couple of weeks. Post back if you figure it out, I'm curious.

Persistent west winds over the last two weeks have significantly dropped the Tchefuncte. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to partake in the killer bass fishing due to the low water.

I saw an indication of that and guess you're probably correct, but the speed wasn't that great. Certainly unusual as SE is the normal summer wind (I thought).

Also, I know winds affect the river more than rain, but the historical chart shows rain every day for the since June 10 except one.

This. Another thing that's been unusual is a persistent northwest wind. Even during the winters, we'll only see 2-3 days of that at a time. The water in the marsh is lower than it is during duck season. Pretty wild.

I too live in that area. I paddle frequently from the bridge at T rivers to the bridge at Guste island road. The water is indeed down and the bass are indeed everywhere. Gators too. Saw at least a dozen the other day in 3.5 hours.

I noticed by causeway toll as well that the "tide" had receded a good 20 yards from the shore.
