ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - On October 23 at approximately 6:40 p.m., Alexandria Police Department responded to a man-down call in the 2200 block of Polk Street. The victim, identified as Courtney Honore, 29, of Alexandria, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

First appearances suggest the victim suffered a single fatal wound from an air-pellet type weapon.

Investigators and CSI personnel responded.

At approximately 10 p.m., detectives arrested and charged a 12-year-old juvenile acquaintance of the victim with negligent homicide.

The juvenile remains in custody.

Not sure if you blame the kid for shooting or the adult for being a wuss and dieing from a pellet. I am leaning towards the adult...

Damn... I see air gun tech has come a long way from when I was 12.

Aren't there some air rifles out there that are designed to take large game?

I know it says negligent homicide but what exactly does that mean.

The definition is as follows:
(1) The killing of a human being by criminal negligence

But again, what is "criminal" negligence? I guess what I'm getting at is, did he mean to shoot him or was it an accident caused by negligence.

Obviously I haven't watched enough Law and Order

Boom to the posters saying an air rifle wouldn't kill a squirrel.

§12. Criminal negligence
Criminal negligence exists when, although neither specific nor general criminal intent is present, there is such disregard of the interest of others that the offender's conduct amounts to a gross deviation below the standard of care expected to be maintained by a reasonably careful man under like circumstances.

Not blaming anyone. But that kid apparently wasn't taught gun safety. It was just a pellet gun, but still.

The wording wasn't very clear on how they knew each other or what they were doing. I would like to hear the full story.

Can the average 12 year old pump a fancy pellet gun or are we dealing with a daisy...

I think a 12 year old can cock a gamo or similar. 12, that's like middle school, right? I don't think you can kill someone with a Red Ryder. Not the one I had at least, damn thing would bounce a bb off a woodpecker at 10 yards.

I think this is how this situation unfolded...

Courtney: That's not a real gun, is it, kid?

Kid: What, are you kidding? this is a magnum p.i.

Courtney: It's a bb gun.

Kid: I can put an eye out with this thing.

Courtney: You couldn't even break the skin with that thing.

Kid: It could. it could. it could break the skin.
It could put a lodge under the skin and cause a very bad infection.

Courtney: That's an old wives' tale, kid. I'm tellin'.

Pew.

Hell no he wasn't taught gun safety!
Chances are that he has no father or father-figure.
He is merely grist for the prison mill now.

We have a pellet gun in .22 caliber w/1100 fps capability. A shot to the eye or temple would certainly kill someone.

Yhea, I know there is a .357 cal compression air rifle. Might have even larger sizes now.
