Looking to get my dad a nice pocket knife. Something functional, but looks good.

Preferably folding with wood handle.

Most of mine I own are simply functional with composite material.

I don’t really go for looks with my purchases.

Any brand recs?

Case is usually the go to for the traditional folding pocket knife.

I mean, he is both old and a man.

Thanks for the other posts.

I called my ole man "Old Man" up until the last day I talked to him when the Lord called him home. It's a term of endearment. Just like he called me "Pistach".

As far as the original topic my OLE MAN would love anything that was American made. He never owned a Benchmade but that was soon on my list to get him one and he would have loved it. He loved American made Kershaws and Gerbers. He had a few Case knives but mostly those two brands I listed above.

Not sure on the wooden handle aspect. Could that wood split or swell due to getting wet? I'd be concerned about that.

I like a # 8 Opinel. Not very expensive but a damn good knife. The blade locks to keep it closed while in the pocket and locks open as well.

Case works. If you want something unique, look at Laguiole also. They are classy knives from France. All have subtle cross designs on the handles. You can stick the knife blade down in a loaf of bread, and the cross will be up for saying a blessing.

Can also recommend Opinel as a very good inexpensive knife with a unique look and feel.

Wood folder, do you want single or multiple blades?

If multiple like a classic stockman or trapper style knife Boker is one of the best out there, make sure you get the German built ones though.

Second for the Crooked River.

If he still works and works in an office, you may want to go with the Crooked River mini. The regular version draws a fair amount of attention if you’re using it to open a box or something like that.

If your looking for something special and very well made then check out Great Eastern Cutlery. Company out of Pennsylvania that makes top quality folders. Nothing that will break the bank and definitely not commercially produced like Benchmade etc. nothing against Benchmade they are good knives. I have a friend that collects them and have had the opportunity to handle and carry quite a few models. They are made in small runs in many different fit and finishes but all I have seen are of top quality.

Case trapperlock. Had one for a while and lost it. Was easily my favorite Case knife I’ve ever had, and I’ve had 30 or so.

ETA: tried to link one but internet and amazon are messing with me. Look it up. Fine knife

I prefer traditional slipjoint knives. I have a couple GEC and Case in my collection. I really like the Case Copperhead they rereleased this year like this one
