Screw climbers. I am scared of those. I hunt private but I would just do ground if I had the choice. I have seen too many accidents where people get too comfortable with those.

my guess would be more accidents occur with lockons than climbers, but that's me guesing

Probably. I have a fear of falling and not a fear of heights is probably the reason.

Hahaha. I was thinking lean-to/ladder stand. My bad. I don't think I've ever hunted a lock-on.

I am more comfortable in a climber than any other tree stand. The only accident I know of involved serious user error. I am way more afraid of lock ons.

Stand can not be left in huntable position. Lock ons cannot be used unless you take down every evening. So climbers are best option on wma's.
On NWRs all you have to do is lift the seat.

i've hunted one like that but it has a folding rail that goes in frnot so that helps a bunch. I'm fine with the rail, the climbing to and from spikes to platform is a little dicey gotta be careful.

Public land I would use a climber for sure. I am not setting up a lock on/sticks in the dark. Take the lower stick off will not prevent your stand from getting stolen either.

On private land lock ons all day. Quiet, consealed, and quick to get in. I cant believe how many people on here are scared of lock ons. Probably not enough room for your heater buddies and honey bun stash

I just go with ladder stands. Not sure what advantage a lock-on has to a ladder, besides a little less awkward to carry.

you can really put up a lock on as high as you need in certain situations.

Much less awkward to carry and much lighter. Lock-Ons also have a much smaller profile, making concealment easier.

I can see a ladder the second I walk up on one. You will really have to look for some of our lock ons. Helps with theft and concealment. Like said above you can put them on almost any type tree and high enough to help with scent control.

I've sat in those before, it's not the scared part of falling out I don't like, I usually can't get comfortable sitting on a small seat with no back for a long time and end up standing up for most of the hunt.

Meh, I just prefer a climber. Every stand accident I have personal knowledge of except one occurred using a lock on.

I don't mind lock ons as long as the ladder goes past the sand and I can just sep over. I hate the ones with the stand 25' up and only 20' of ladder

I have a friend that will have 20' of sticks starting about 8' off the ground and his lock on at the top. He carries one of these in and out of the WMA. Hooks them up and can reach his sticks
