That's a bunch of them...

How bad is the lionfish invasion in the northern Gulf of Mexico? To get an idea, watch this video showing a diver removing dozens of these invasive fish from a single artificial reef off Pensacola.

Damn that was a badass little spear/catcher.
Why weren't they swimming away?

One of my old roommates had one in an aquarium. He'd feed it freshwater minnows every few days. It would absolutely blow them up when it struck....very aggressive.

That dude was at 105 feet. My deepest depth ever is 78 feet. I guess I need to take an advanced certification before I tackle Lionfish spearing.

I clear them at 10 feet. If they don't clear I cancel the dive.

I just have the Padi open water certification which is for depths up to 60 feet. The advanced course is for depths up to 120 feet. I know I can go to whatever depth I want to now and the Padi police will not show up but I just want to be safe. Plus, my wife has already agreed to take the course with me next month.
