My geaux-to 15 year old Frog Tog has gone missing. I ordered another one but the new ones are either very thin or very stiff.

Any recommendations for a lightweight, compact waterproof jacket with hood.

TIA

I like Grundens and Gill for raingear on the boat. Also have a Marmot Precip jacket that I keep in my car.

Patagonia sometimes gets shite on here but my torrentshell h2no has been working for years. I’ve abused the hell out of that thing everywhere from wading east matagorda to absolute monsoons in hopedale and it keeps on ticking.

In another thread asking for lightweight rain jackets to wear while running, Chicken himself recommended this Montbell Tachyon hooded jacket. pretty pricy but it has great reviews. I’ve had success with a cheap Columbia one but it turns into a sauna if you’re doing some activity.

I love my Simms gore-Tex. I don’t remember the model but it’s great.

As they should.

Plenty of other companies have rain jackets that will do the same except you’ll know you aren’t contributing to help Patagonia take away fishing/hunting rights.

My 2 favorite rain jackets are both Gore-Tex (Sitka and Arcteryx). Expensive but I'm pretty sure they're the best and I would buy again in a heart-beat.

I've had these and liked them both. Both are lite, packable, effective, and comfortable.

Could you provide some proof of this other than the founders stance on predator hunting?

Is the Montbell actually rainproof? As in duckblind rain proof? I haven’t defeated from Frog Togs for that reason. I agree tgat today’s version is stiff, loud and uncomfortable , but for duck hunting purposes I want something I know want slow any water to penetrate. I buy a size or two up on those outer layer and layer underneath to account for the changing conditions of a South La duck hunting experience. This includes taking shite off early when I am working to set and boat and decoys, to putting it back in when I stop. Let alone when the from comes through and temp drops 20 degrees in an hour.

I ended up going with the Montbell Rain Trekker. I deviated from my standard black color to the blue hoping it will be easier for me to keep track of.

I liked the weight (only 6.9 ounces) and the compression seemed to be a bit tighter. Plan to keep it in my truck and use in my air-travel back pack. I'll keep my stiff Frog Tog on my cart.

TMI, CSB.

Thanks again for all the input. I checked out each recommendation and learned quite a bit before making a decision.

I wouldn't buy a rain jacket made out of anything other than gortex. I have a marmot and a sitka both are great and hold up well.

I also like Gore-Tex. Per the specs:
