Chad how can I get a rod for cheaper at academy? There's got to be a way to screw them.

Shop at academy, price check on interwebz at ebay, amazon, and elsehwere. Pay less, no taxes, when it breaks, you lost your receipt at academy of slidell. Prosper.

Anyone ever go the custom route?

put a custom rod in you're hands and you'll never want anything else, they can make it to whatever specifications and action you want

Or

Falcon Coastal or Falcon Bucoo

All are excellent, All-Star makes some good rods too.
Go to Academy, pick them up, get a feel for 'em, and decide which one you like for the price.

Did you not like the falcon coastal? Falcon also has a new lowrider inshore rod that seems like it would be great. I mainly fish falcon cara and lowriders on my bass rigs.

I liked it ok. Just seeing if there's anything better for the money out there.

I have a pretty wide assortment of either G Loomis or Ugly Stick. Opposite ends of the spectrum for sure. But, can't always validate spending the money on the Loomis. That being said, for the price, Ugly Stick. If you just want the comfort and light rod, G Loomis.

As much as I like Abu's reels, I'm not really a fan of their rods.

The veritas are pretty good, I don't think their worth it though.

That's my main beef. They just don't perform as well compared to rods of similar price.

I buy ugly sticks to abuse them.

I have an old Ambassadeur BCX 5500 on one.
