Any of you guys familiar with the Swimsation by Mister Twister? It was mentioned in a Louisiana Sportsman post I read this morning about bass fishing in the basin.

Its been almost two weeks since I wasted any money on tackle, so after watching a couple videos, I went ahead and ordered two different colors, along with two jigs. Everyone has been telling me that fishing jigs is where its at, so I figured Id give it a shot.

Gonna use the Swimsations as a swim bait and as a trailer with the jig.

Any advice on jig fishing the basin, or jig fishing in general is appreciated

Never heard of it, but it looks like it'll catch some fish.

You talkin swim jigs or flippin jigs? I'd recommend putting that swimsation on a swim jig. But I guess it could work on a flippin and pitchin jig.

I've been looking around at paddle tail swim baits myself. Remember that chatterbait I was throwing with the fluke trailer? After looking around I bought some Keitech Swing Impact FAT Swimbaits to put on that chatterbait as a trailer. I think that paddle tail will add a little extra action, even though it already has plenty. We'll see how it works. Once the fish get into that fall pattern that thing should work wonders.

I bought one casting jig, and one flipping jig. Casting jig is the same as a swim jig, no?

I do remember that chatterbait; you just had a regular split tail fluke on it?

Does it have a round head? If so, it could be used as one. Casting jig is kind of a "multi purpose" jig from my understanding.

Yep

I bought 70 brand new jigs from a guy for $100 the other day. A few were quarter ounce and a few were an ounce and a quarter, but the majority of them were half ounce and three quarter ounce.

I was planning on fishing on Friday but I now have a client coming in so that is out. I will fish either Saturday or Sunday for sure weather permitting.

Yeah that first one for sure will work as a swim jig. Basically you work it like a spinnerbait. The tricky part is figuring out how to keep it at certain depths in the water column.

Flipping jig you work very similar to a Texas rig. Flip it out there, let it sink, bounce it off the bottom, rinse and repeat.

Jigs are considered a "big fish" bait because of the skirt creating a larger profile. And it works in two ways. The action you give it, and the action of the skirt when it's at rest. They catch fish.

If you find yourself getting hung up a lot in heavy cover, let me make a recommendation. These are the only jigs I buy for flipping and pitching.

I plan on going to Henderson Saturday morning. Not sure where I'll be launching yet, though.

I went to Henderson sunday afternoon and skunked. I really don't know the place and ended up going to the Phillips and a few other area's. It was more of a learning experience. I'll definitely go again. It's beautiful out there.

Crawfish/red colored crankbait, red shad worms, white lunker lure, spinnerbaits. I punched a good bit with some D-Bombs but nothing.

Even tried sacaulait fishing with no luck. I managed to catch a few bream but couldn't find them bunched up.

Sometimes ill get there and catch one or two the first spot i try, then not another bite the entire trip.

Sometimes ill bust arse for hours without a bite, only to catch one or two in the last 30mins im there. It can be a tough ppace to fish, thats for sure.

Most of the people I know that have been catching are having to finesse em. Doesn't sound like they're chasing much. Hope you have better luck next time.

I've heard of the place but have never been. Supposedly some good fishing can be had there.
