Accessorizing sounds like it. I like to say modify.

I'll happily be the research subject on this one

Is your dad planning to get another new truck in a year and donate that one to you?

Touche.

I like to make informed decisions though the further I go in training, the less I believe in truly informed decisions b/c too many variables. It's just a term the lawyers like.

ETA: I guess Bourg only has to see it on the Green Gem since they're not terribly common.

I recommend Auto Spring leveling kits because of the cheap price, durability, and built on off set to keep your tires off the UCAs.

Since you're pretty knowledgeable about these, I've got a quick question. Would you get a Rough Country kit (what the guy stocks where I'll be doing some of the work) versus ordering an Auto Spring kit and finding someone to install it? I don't know enough about them and the reviews online are pretty even, but I'm not sure if that offset you were talking about makes a big difference.

I have the rough country and it's been good. Rides great with ~20k miles.

Autospring might be a little better, but I doubt you would notice much difference.

Awesome. Thanks

Does your FX4 have a lift or level kit? Can't remember which.

are shite compared to Bilstein shocks. Much better ride and reputation than a budget suspension company (Rancho).

I had the bilstein 5100's on the truck I had before this. 2010 F-150 KR. I've dealt with short travel shocks since I was 15 for racing. We ran double and triple bypass shocks. Shy Ohlin's, Integra, etc... We had a shock dyno in our race car trailer. I know internals. Put them on a dyno and look at rebound and compression. Then talk shite. fricking idiot.

Please elaborate on your shock experience.
I'd bet you've never seen a shock dyno.

re: King Ranch thread/Show off your Ford 4x4
You mentioned some very common shock terms and now you are an expert? I have a different opinion than yours and you cry like a child. I am 100% happy that I rustled your jimmies on this wonderful Friday night.

ETA: I removed my last question to avoid any further bitching back and forward. It was fun but I am not going to get this wonderful thread anchored.

Just as I thought. You have an opinion based on what? Nothing. Then you bring up King, Icon, and whatever... which are medium to long travel racing shocks. The original question was for a leveling kit. Which is why I answered like I did. If you ever saw a peterbuilt with a 56' competition trailer on I-10 in BR it was us. No, I'm no expert, but I watched our guy re-valve shocks enough to know what I'm talking about. Keep your trashy arse in in LP.

I can't comment on an F150, but on a Tacoma the Ranchos ride like shite compared to 5100s. A damn spacer lift rides better than Ranchos. Rancho did a piss poor job of valving for the Tacoma.

Either setup is going to cost you down travel. I will end up replacing my set up with Icon or Fox coilovers eventually. You are better off going mid travel from the get go if you are off road at all.

On what setting do the ranchos ride like shit? Serious question. I've adjusted mine across the board and can tell a huge difference from one end to the other.

re: King Ranch thread/Show off your Ford 4x4
Before i bought my 5100s I rode in my buddy's with them anywhere from 3-7 and I didn't feel like the ride was ever right. He actually replaced his with 5100s after I installed mine and he rode in my truck. Aside from the valving, I'm not sure that the coil that they use isn't too strong for a Tacoma. I'm wanting to say they use a 700lb spring. That's generally what you would want to run with a plate bumper on a Tacoma. I believe Icon and Fox use 600lb springs. King's standard spring is 650lb with the option of going 700lbs for extra weight. Stock for a Taco is 540lbs.
