I've been to hell and back... I also went to Hopedale during my "break".

First off, I want to say I'm sorry for ever suggesting anyone be banned. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.
Secondly, I suggest everyone take a moment to consider what it would be like to read all the comments and not be able to respond. It sucks.
Anyway, I'm back and wanted to report on my recent fishing trip down in Hopedale. I've fly fished for rainbow and brown trout quite a few times, so when the opportunity came up for a chance to sight fish for reds with a fly rod I took it. I greatly underestimated the difficulty. As a somewhat inexperienced fly fisherman, my casting distance ability really handicapped my chances. If you can't double haul and throw most if not all your fly line you are way behind the 8 ball fly fishing for reds. Just about the time I'd get in range, they'd spook and take off. Nonetheless, I managed to hook up and land a couple over 2 days of fishing...
It was me and another guy. When one was on the bow fly fishing the other was throwing a gold spoon when we weren't stalking a specific fish or school. That method was smoking that arse on random ones we couldn't see. That really helped ease the pain of countless failures with the fly rod. I bet we saw over 300 fish a day, but only hooked up 2% of the time. Very frustrating.
It was a great experience and I highly recommend it to anyone who fly fishes. Just be prepared to be humbled... much like a banning.

Lots of mottled ducks. Let the argument begin...

That's not true at all. You need to be able to haul effectively, especially in wind, but most of your redfish shots should be within 50ft.
Sweet photos though.

That's probably true more often than not. The guide said the full moon had them super sketchy. I don't know. It made me feel better.
It just seemed right about 60' when you'd start false casting they'd bust. We tried to minimize movement and sound, but the slightest thing going against you and boom, they were gone.

This is code for - the fish are spooky today, I have no idea why

Nice pics, looks like a great couple days.
I'm off tomorrow as soon as I land at MSY. Now I'm tempted to head straight home and cross Borgne to the B Marsh.
Love hooking reds in the ponds.

I remember a couple guys lighting into me recently when I talked about blind casting between "sight fishing" casts in a sight fishing thread They swore the two methods can't work hand in hand. I've found that it works quite well. Looks like a good time - glad y'all put some in the box.

Any time we'd spot fish, the spoon guy had to get still and quiet until the fish spooked or hooked up. That's how we did it...
