I think alot of folks, including me have a built in fear of snakes. I don't kill everyone I see but if it catches me by surprise and I have a shovel or some other weapon then bad news for the snake. But I'm realizing how seldom I have seen a poisonous snake.

when a snake is where he belongs, he is safe. When he is on my patio, or my flowerbeds or anywhere near the vicinity of my foot...I cant be held responsible for my actions.

I own a 6 ft red tailed boa. Nicest snake I've ever seen. I've had him 4 years now, and he's never bit anyone. My attitude towards snakes has definitely changed since I got Hades

I just don't understand why people struggle so much with identifying snakes. I knew if a snake was venomous or not with 100% certainty by the time I was 12. And I could identify exactly what species 90% of them were by that time.
I mean, come on, there are rattlesnakes (pretty obvious, right?) copperheads (also very distinct), water moccasins (just because it's in the water, doesn't mean it is one), and coral snakes (red touching yellow). The water moccasins are the most difficult ones, but they have a very distinct head and body shape.

That floating thing is a dead giveaway. Copperheads do it. Rattlesnakes do it. Cottonmouths do it. If that fricker is bobbing on the surface, he better pray to his snake god for intervention.

I knew this when I was 10.

I didn't want to brag. I actually knew it before I was born. But seriously, I was very young. Surely these big fearless outdoorsmen can learn what an elementary school kid can learn about snakes.

My daddys sperm could ID snakes.

Your momma's eggs lied to your daddy's sperm. That "anaconda" belonged to me.

If Eve had just killed that damn snake in the garden, we'd be in a lot better shape now.
