That doesn't mean I could identify you. Your facial hair tends to change. Stay out of my pit...

Forget head size, that's not always reliable. Were the pupils round or slits? That's more accurate in North America.

i never kill snakes, even venomous ones

I agree with this. Mind you, I understand why people do kill venomous snakes, and keep my thoughts to myself on that. What troubles me is that it is so very easy to learn to identify the 4 poisonous snakes you might run into in Louisiana, yet people just kill any snake they see, then come on here and brag. OBers certainly learn to ID ducks so that you don't violate the law...well, except for that chicken beaked duck. It has got to be harder to ID a duck in flights than a snake just laying there on the ground.

I'm by no means an expert, but I would've killed that snake as well...looks very similar to a moccasin...anything questionable gets killed. Former yardman of mine killed a garter snake last summer-that was the last time he cut my yard..

False. If you see a moccasin, copperhead, rattlesnake you will know instantly that they are not the average snake. They look evil. At least to me there is no way to mistake any harmless snakes for venomous ones in Louisiana. Except for a hognose snake and scarlet kingsnake.

never seen a moccasin up close to know how evil they look-just know their general loook. I have seen a rattle snake though and you're right about the evil...Shot that bastard mid strike. Even after that he tried to strike at us again. Must admit that it was pretty funny seeing my dad and uncle (68 and 72 years old) turn their handguns sideways and go "boys-in-the-hood" on it as they emptied their magazines.

...and you guys thought I was crazy. This happens ALL the time. Growing up close to a bayou, I can tell you that cottonmouth id back then was 100% false. 80/20 diamondback watersnake/broad banded.

In his defense, the garter snake almost looked as much like a cottonmouth as the snake in this thread did......you should rehire him.

That water snake does resemble the CottonMouth.
But you're right, if the hair stands up on the back of your neck, it's more than likely a poisonous snake.

I kill them just for the satisfaction of knowing there are whiny vaginas that get upset about it.
