I don't keep one in the chamber because I heard it was illegal and then someone told me its not. I need the OB experts.

Check your state/local laws. For self defense handguns, it is legal in the gun friendly states.
For long guns during hunting season, I know in MS it can be used as evidence of road hunting.

+1

As long as you are 17 years old and have a clean record, it is legal to have a loaded handgun in your car, open or concealed in a glove box, console, etc.

Nope. And if you don't have a permit you aren't required to even notify a leo although advisable if you have nothing to hide

I can't believe there are people out there that don't know that you can have a loaded gun. It boggles my mind. Read a book people.

That would depend on where your truck is. Louisiana highways...yes. Inside the city limits of Chicago.....not so much.

In Louisiana, no, BUT and a big one at that. If you go on a WMA and hunting season is closed, that is a big no no. Also, don't have a loaded gun and go to any schools. Way bigger no no.

good friend of mine that is a lawyer in NO has participated in several legal actions vs NOPD in which otherwise law abiding citizens have had guns taken from them for no reason other than they couldn't prove they WERE NOT stolen.....

NOPD may have stopped the practice by now but it happened as recently as two years ago.

LINK

fact.

I've only heard of gun seisure (except for the immediate aftermath of Post Katrina) after a "brandishing incident", and that had way more to do with behavior than ownership.

Your original statement made it sound like standard procedure.

If it happens to ONE law abiding citizen - it is too many...

BTW... my buddy took the cases PRO BONO..

and there are a LOT OF THEM....

and like I said.. one of the suits was less than 2 years ago - so the practice still continues..
