That was coon hunting before the turn of the last millennium. You were in another mule and technically not involved in trying to fill those doe tags. I've done many things I'm not proud of in my younger years. It wasn't illegal to hunt coons, I just tried to help the deer herd because no one else would. I always get blamed for trying to help other folks out.

Missed my first one at age 10 with a .410 slug.

Never missed with a bow but I've only shot at 3 and only found 1. I consistently shoot high for some reason

Our buddy showed up without a bath in 7 days with the prized squirrel dogs that could smell a coon from a mile away and left over 50k cash in a trash bag on his backseat for two days while visiting. That is what started the whole debacle.

I missed a pile of deer before I got my first kill. Really helps if the scope is sighted in.

If you have never missed a deer you haven't been hunting enough

I missed the first one I ever shot at. Scope was off by a foot at 25 and I was shooting at 50ish. Four shots and four misses. I think I heard laughter as he finally loped off.
Another time I shot and thought I missed. The herd stopped and I shot one and killed her. Then I saw another one with blood dripping off her brisket, shot again missed, again and another miss. Then they ran off. Six of us searched high and low for that bleeding one, the trail lasted 50 yards or so and we never found her.
They had stopped cutting shirt tails by that time.

I have missed / lost 4 in the last 3 years. 3 with my bow. One giant with my rifle that kinda freaked me out I guess (clean miss). After all that my % is still pretty good I think.

My 9 year old had his first miss on a FAT NANNIE on Saturday. He had fired 3 shots, and killed 3 deer the last 2 years.

This one was my fault. I let him take a shot at 165 yards, when I really wanted to limit him to ~125 with his youth .243

Had 15 other deer come out on us after the shot, but since we weren't sure whether or not he had hit with the first shot, Nannies were off limits. We also had 4 young bucks within range, but nothing better than a decent 6 point.

Needless to say, it was KILLING him watching all those deer and not being able to shoot one.

Was a great learning experience for the both of us.
