Had a 97 Kawasaki that I never should have sold. Now looking for something new.
Don't want or need a side by side. Mainly interested in brand dependability and pros and cons of each. Looking to stay under 10k.

Few of the guys I hunt with ordered ranchers with manual shift and power steering, they really like them. I have an older 500 foreman that runs like a champ.

if your going for reliablity, longevity and a work horse then you can't go wrong with a Honda..
I have a 06 Rubicon 500 and its tough. Also have a Can Am Outlander 1000 and love it but I use it for play the Honda for work

i have had nothing but hondas for 25 yrs, no issues. But 2 yrs ago got a 2014 polaris sportsman... and it is freaking awesome. I prefer it to the hondas i have had, but no bad words towards honda either

You can't get manual shifting anymore?

I have owned many ATVs,and I don't think you can go wrong with any of the big 4,Honda,Suzuki,Kawasaki or Yamaha. My current one is a'98 300 Arctic Cat,it has a Suzuki driveline from a Suzuki King Quad, with a better suspension. It's an awesome machine with a great ride, but I don't think that configuration is available any more.
Personally, I wouldn't want one that isn't manual shift.

As was posted earlier, I think you are safe with any of the Japanese bikes. I personally own a 2014 grizzly 700 with ps and a 2009 Honda foreman. Both great bikes. If forced to choose I would take the grizzly. More fun to ride and has a lot better ride. It's like a Cadillac compared to the Honda. I also just sold an artic cat 650 last year. It had the Kawasaki engine in it. I can't complain about that one either, well except it was rough riding. Seriously that grizzly has spoiled me lol. I don't have any experience with can am or Polaris atv though.

If you are buying for hunting and or work buy a Honda. If you are also wanting something fun to ride go with a Can Am or Polaris. I have a Can Am and love it.

Rancher 420 and 4trax 300 are equal GOATS.
I've got one of each.

Because they worship honda... A brand that sacraficed ruggedness for plastic starting in 99.
For reliability, nothing currently made is touching a 450, 550, and 700 grizzly.
Hondas still have bearing and seal issues. They have since they went to the newer style straight axle rear end with the 88 300 honda. The big red before it had grease fittings in the axle tubes. Honda air cooled motors might be the most reliable engines ever designed. And their annoying diaphragm carbs out perform even the best fuel injection when it comes to reliability. But they don't use them anymore.
I love the 420 honda, as it is the best bike honda has made since the big red and trx350d, but the bike is a little small for me. The fuel injected 500 foreman got the power slightly closer to competitive, but it still is the lowest in that class.
The 500 and 800 sportsman with the fuji and liberty motors were amazing bikes. But, being a Polaris, they demanded constant greasing. I didn't mind it, most do. Their belt drives did not tolerate easing on tje throttle. If you gave it gas and didn't try to feather it, the belts lasted forever. If you were easy on it, you could wear the belts out.
The suzuki king quad is an amazing underrated bike.
The kawi brute force... It requires love. Lots of little things go out, but once you work the kinks out, the motor has more potential than anything ever put into a bike.
As for canams, they are either bulletproof or garbage. There is no in between. I am not a fan of the rotax motors because every single rotax ever built is a time bomb. They run so perfectly with such amazing power, with a cost. I have never seen a rotax motor die a slow death. Ever. From their motors in the Tiger 3wheelers back in the day, to their small planes, to their bikes. Every rotax motor I have ever seen that had issues showed them in a catastrophic fashion. The price for perfection is an expiration date.
If you want an honest answer of what you should buy, ask yourself if you are going to do the maintenance. If no, get the honda. If you will at least do oil changes, get the yamaha or the Suzuki If you can tolerate a little greasing and running oem fluids, get a polaris. If you like to tinker, brite force. If you want to look flashy and pick up slutty country girls at mud events, a can am is for you.
Me personally. I have a grizzly in the shop, a fleet of old school honda bikes, and a kfx I'm building.

I just recently bought a new Honda rubicon and love it. I also have owned a grizzly 700 and a can-am outlander 1000 and loved them too. If you need a ton of power and want that v-twin power get the can am. But if you want to be able to drink beer and drag a deer out the woods get a Honda.

I have a Yamaha Grizzly 450. For me it came down to either the Rancher or the Grizzly. The Yamaha seemed to offer more than the Honda and I had a couple of mechanics recommend the Yamaha over the Honda. I'm happy with my choice. I have not had issue number 1 with the Yamaha in 6 years. I also have a Kawasaki 220 from 1992. It still runs perfect. I think any of the Japanese made bikes are fine.

Grizzly's are the sleepers around the OB and only appreciated by a select few that own them. I like the Rubicon but want more power than a 475cc. I have a 14 Grizz 700 that does everything I ask and wont bog down with larger tires or loaded down cruising. I felt the new Honda Rubicon was working hard to cruise loaded down at 35mph.
The 16 grizzly's are bad to the bone. weaknesses from previous versions have been removed. If your spending 10K on a new bike why buy something with less power? Now if the Rincon gets an update and utilizes all the Rubicon's new features then it will be a little closer match against the grizzly. Also I not sold on Honda's DCT auto system. Lots of electronics that can get under water real quick.

As has been said, 420 rancher. We have two and I don't see what more you could want out of a bike. I love the manual shift
