I would consider if a SRW F250 or F350 would be adequate for the intermittent fifth wheel demands, particularly if this will be primarily a daily driver.

Parking, driving, which roads/driveways you can use - all get more complicated when you go dually.

We have a farm and pull cattle trailers. Our first Dually was a 1976 GMC w a 454. We then got a Dodge w a Cummings. We now only use HD 3/4 tons and would never go back to a dually.

No way, no how I'd want a dually.

First off, you'd have to make a monster jump from a pull behind to a huge 5th wheel to need a f350 dually. Tons of options in between. A trailer that size is going to seriously suck to travel with, it's very long and even with the right truck they aren't going to be enjoyable to drive, park, etc. That doesn't even count the necessity to drive the dually 40 weeks of the year without pulling something.

OP get a 2wd F250 and put some 35x12.50-15's on the back baw. Goat roper style.

you've been camping for a minute and already planning a 5th wheel upgrade?

may i ask why?

also, how big of a 5th wheel are you planning to buy? they got nice pretty big 5th wheels that can be towed with a half ton, you would need somethign huge to "need" a dually.

If you have plans later on to do hot shot work, i'd just wait and cross that bridge when you get there and needing the dually "upgrade".

Two things, first unless you're getting a really big fifth wheel I'd consider an F250 or F350, long bed, single rear wheel with an airbag setup over daily driving a dually. It's doable but can be a pain in the arse at times.

Second, if you intend to lease the truck on to a trucking company to do hotshot work then most, if not all, companies will not permit you to use the vehicle for personal use, hauling your own equipment(like a fifth wheel), driving the wife/kids around, etc. Insurance will not allow it.

Is your wife ever going to drive it?

Think long and hard about this. Duallys are farrrrrrrrr better than single wheels for towing. They cost more, it's two more tires to buy, they ride like shite, they turn like shite, they don't fit in parking spaces, they get stuck easily, you can't reach into the bed from the side, this list goes on and on.

If you're going to pull heavy they're incredible. The extra stability with something that catches plenty air like a camper does is great. They're much safer to tow with than a single wheel and if I had one of those 36'+ campers and pulled it often, I'd want a dually. You've just got to weigh the pros and cons.

If you're towing a dozen times a year just get an f250 or a srw f350

Sadly many 5th wheels that people pull with srw 3/4 tons area really in 350-450 dually territory. I have a 32 ft wildcat 5th wheel and it drops my 3/4 ton F250 on its arse. Has aronud 1800 lbs of pin weight. I would definitely recommend the 350 over the 250 but wouldn't jump to the dually unless you are looking at 35'+ toy haulers. Toy haulers seem to be in the 2000-3000 lb pin weight range.

Fords are very soft in the arse. Get air bags. If I had an HD ford that I pulled heavy with, it would have air bags.

Was to suggest the thing, F-350 SRW. I hope to have one by the end of the year for the future offshore boat and 5th wheel in the future.

Thanks for the responses. I may think twice about it when the time comes.

Why do you say that?

also you cannot fit through car washes...you'll be relegated to paying someone to hand wash it or wash it yourself...

Why not just go with the F350 single rear wheel?
