I've got the Stoeger m3000. Had an extractor problem right out of the box. Brought it back to Puglia's and they sent it in to get checked out. After I got it back, I haven't had a single problem. The gun fits me well and I'm happy with it, but like others have said, is a gamble on quality. I wish I would have paid a little more for the A300.

I've hunted with one for 15 years and never needed 3.5's.

Honestly I've never used it either... just figured if i was dumping that much cash into something... to get one that shot 2 3/4-3.5. Dont guess I really need it tho

In that price range I'd definitely go with the beretta a300. Don't get a stoeger by passing on a beretta in similar price range. 3" shells will kill ducks and geese dead, I seldom use 3.5's. Good luck!

In my experience a 3 1/2" gun can be heavy / bulky. You could be giving up handling for the capability.

A black synthetic slightly used franchi I 12 only shoots 3 in no 3.5

I hunt almost exclusively with 2 3/4" shells.
I like less recoil, noise, and price.

they catch a lot of flack on here, but I have duck hunted with a remington 1187 special purpose since 1990 and it has been put through hell and worked flawlessly...I would get another in a heartbeat....

I would probably take the 1990 version over the current version.
Seriously though, a used Beretta 390 or a new A300 is the only choices here.

Headed to a local gun shop just to look at a few... Thanks for the responses fellas.

Alright, i guess a pump is back in the equation. Really liked the browning BPS, very fluid pump action, easy to handle. He was out of 870s, so i cant rule on that. Winchester super XP was ok, preferred the browning. On autos, beretta a300 felt cheaply made, didnt like the feel of it. Cant remember the winchester auto but it amd the versamax was about the same. Still a toss up

A friend of mine just texted me that he is selling an SBE 1 for 800. FWIW

I'd just get a pump and spend the rest on other gear or shells. But I've never had an issue racking a pump between shots.
What's a wing master run these days? Around $800 IIRC right? I'd probably go with that, my brother has my dad's old one from the 80s, really nice feeling pump shotgun for bird hunting. Id rather it than my Benelli super nova

I think I've made my mind up and gonna pull the trigger on the Browning BPS.... reasonably priced and I can spend the extra on gear!

You can't go wrong with the BPS. Mine used to be my #1 but now it's the backup to my 935.
Yep, I shoot a 935 and have for 10 years now with 0 issues. I only use 3" shells but have the ability to shoot 3-1/2's if I want to. I know they catch a lot of flack but I've never had an issue with a Mossberg. Remington?, that's a whole other issue.

Yea I'm pretty excited about it... shoulders easy, extremely smooth pump action... ejects from bottom...only thing is its a tad heavier that others but dont thnk it will be a prob

If you can pick up an SBE for 800 and it is in good shape, buy it and do not look back. I own a SBE, a Benelli m-2, Win sx-3 and BPS. All good guns. You said auto so I would go with the used SBE or a new Win sx-3. That being said, the Beretta uplander is a fine gun.
