Moose is very good.
If you're going to do just one, go with the fishing. You can move around to different places and do more IMO. If you want a real challenge, do a goat hunt.

Yeah, a few. Max Schwab out of Talkeetna, Dave Morris out of Fairbanks, Sam Fejas, Al Gilliam out of Haines, is a good one. If you're looking for bear and/or goat, Hans Baertle is a local guy who has some good videos on the net.

look up arrowhead outfitters, they do drop off hunts and are very reasonable priced, on their website they have a 45 minute video of a guy on his moose adventure, pretty cool. From what I understand the moose population is in pretty bad shape that far north, but had some friends do a caribou hunt with them last fall and they each killed 2 big caribou, said the outfitter was top notch. but this is the kind of thing where they drop you off and pick you up, they are not with you while you are hunting

Don't believe a guide is required for non resident moose in Ak. Used to be the case. I think it's only required for bear, goat and sheep.

Correct... as long as not Alien status
and only for brown bear, do not need a guide for black bear

I really couldn't pick just one. Moose first then fly fish for trout.
Any time left would be a caribou hunt.
And my neighbor that lives across the street from me (moved back from Anchorage last year) said moose is some of the best eating big game meat you can get.

It is.
Caribou hunting is also pretty cool. A good place to do it is Adak Island. There are old abandoned military bunkers and buildings there you can use for shelter.

I've been pricing a trip for August. Looks like flight from AEX, float plane from Juneau to Admiralty Island, and a cabin for the week (no electricity or running water) will run me about $3100 for 4 people. We could fly fish the rivers around the cabin.

It's an amazing place. If you have access to a boat, go across Chatham Straight to Baranof Warm Springs on Baranof Island. Anywhere on Admiralty, Baranof or Chichagof is phenomenal. There are some awesome little bays on those islands where you feel like the only person on earth alone with a world of brown bear.

We used to stay at the cabin on Lake Kathleen. Usually stay in Funter Bay now, got some friends with cabins there and we can get there from Auke Bay by boat relatively quick.
South part of the Island has some huge bays (Hood, Gambier Pybus, Whitewater) that are gorgeous. Windfall Harbor is bear central, if you're into checking some of them out.

There's a "tram" at Olivers Inlet not far from JNU that you can use to transport gear, and there's a cabin at Seymour Canal. Not far from Windfall Harbor and Pack Creek. There's an observation deck at Pack Creek to watch the bears in the creek.

If you need more info on Admiralty, let me know as it draws closer. I deer hunt over there and am pretty familiar with a good bit of the island. It's an outdoorsmens Disneyland.

I definitely will. I may decide to hunt when I go, but I'm mostly interested in the salmon.

You'll find salmon in August, for sure. Runs in the streams start late July around here and go til Late Sept/early Oct. Where there's salmon, you'll find the bears. Big coastal brown bears. There's enough food to where they leave humans alone.
