Ideas on how to store an 15' aluminum canoe in an apartment

Along with the cornucopia of rivets I recently inherited, I was also given a 15' aluminum Grumman canoe. The problem is, I don't know how to store it.

I can't hang it up outside under the breezeway. It doesn't feel safe chaining it up to a tree in the thick copse about 25 yards away from my apartment. And I can't make some permanent attachment inside my apartment because I'm not allowed to do that kind of work to the ceiling or walls.

So I need a way to store my canoe without doing what I mentioned above. Good news: I have a lot of space in my apartment, and it is longest aiming straight at the door. Unfortunately, that is where the entertainment center is.

Any suggestions? I know there's fishermen living in apartments with boats, so how did you manage this spatial problem?

Cut it half and make book shelves.

I'm kidding. How about leaving it at a friend's house?

That's the option my parents think about...but the problem is finding a friend that has the yard for that...and a yard I can get entry to whenever. And preferably a friend that has a boat and "understands". The thing is, I'm the boat guy in my set of friends...

Middle of the living room. Fill with hot water add a trolling motor and hot tub away.

what about screwing some hanging hooks into the ceiling into studs, then hanging it from those, then just remove the hooks when you move out

they'll leave a tiny hole that nobody would ever notice

Thought about this...but it will be in the way and a little bigger than what I would like for a centerpiece.

Also, it's a fire hazard.

make a plywood top for it, by some cushions, and turn that bitch into a giant couch when you're not using it

get a trailer and park in a parking space. How do you haul it? Atop the roof?

Though shall not put their full weight into a an aluminum canoe when it rests upon solid ground.

I want to do the studs idea, but outside under the breezeway. There's a perfect length for it, heck, it's even high enough to be not an obstruction for heads either. It's on the part of the breezeway that I only walk down too.

I think I'm going to ask really really nicely and give them some extra rent money to butter them up.

In the bed of my truck. Part 2 of the problem: I have a Tonneau cover I'll have to take off each time I want to canoe.

I might build a removable roof rack out of some 2x4s so I won't have to do that each time.

Just get rid of your couch and put the canoe in its place.

If the wall behind your couch is long enough you are golden. Make a stand for it similar to a free standing pullup bar out of 2x4's use the couch to hide the long feet needed to counter lever the weight of the canoe. Hang it with the open side toward the wall.

Used to have a 12 foot pirogue stuffed diagonally in my closet when I lived at southgate. 15 feet might be a tad on the large side to do that though.

If you have a balcony, strap it to the outside of the railing. That way it doesn't take up any of your living space.

Note: Don't drop it on someone.

kayak/canoe storage is always a hassle. I've got 52 feet of kayaks stored in the back yard
