Ideas on getting a truck out of the mud.

So, my dad buried his truck up to the axles in mud yesterday in the woods. I guess the snow and ice had just turned what was a normal solid woods road into pure muck. He made the mistake of turning in forwards to try to turn around and he is head on to a tree and thus cannot use his winch to pull himself out of the mud. I could not get my truck back to him and even had to winch myself out to get back up the hill from trying to get into him. Now it has come a flood. I am not sure a tractor could get back to him and the woods are too thick to get anything bigger in.
I told him that it should dry out around June.
Right now the plan is to lay down some metal grating to get the truck turned enough so that it is going forward and we can just use the winch to get it pulled back up the hill. That is if we can get the truck up enough to actually get the tires on the grating.

I'm thinking an elaborate pulley system using his winch. Let me think about it a little more.

Is it a nice truck or a beater? You can't dig out a trench to run the winch cable under the truck to something behind him? Of course, this would scratch the hell out of the bumper.

Has about 250,000 miles on it.
Plus it's a Chevy so it's not like it will hurt the appearance.

Where can I get that?
I think the guy in Baton Rouge who rents them is named John Coast.

Is it clear in front of the tree? If so cut the fricker down. If not then start collecting chains and comealongs. Can you get a small dozer to it?

A team of logging mules?
Seriously though you need either a crap ton of winches, come a longs, chains, ropes or a small bulldozer.
