If you were closer to a larger city, I'd recommend looking up a "used restaurant equipment and supply" store.

Guess it wouldn't hurt to try.

Restaurants are always going out of business and they have really good equipment they need to liquidate. I've gotten great deals in Houston like that.

Bought one last year on craigslist for $100. Retail for that one was $900+, guy wanted the one that made "sonic ice." All I had to get were hoses. Not an everyday deal you see on CL, but keep an eye out just in case.

This.. and also try your local church. They're(well at least the ones I know of) are always replacing stuff like that and music equipment for the choir etc. Might just hit the jackpot if they have an ice maker stored up.

Restaurants aren't a bad look either. Whether they're going out of business or replacing, you can always find a good deal.

They won't work well in a non-climate controlled location.
Maybe the big commercial ones will do OK, but not ones designed for home use.

Actually, problem one is "ice maker".

Those things break down more often than Dodges.

Agree.

OP should read the manual and whatever the cleaning interval is, use twice as much cleaner and do it twice as many times.

I learned all these things the hard ($$$) way.

Whatever you get, put an in-line water filter in the supply line. Should be mandatory for all ice makers.
