So you believe the event you are referencing could duplicate itself here, with this forecast?
Do I think so? Not at all. But leaders of big public companies, especially those of children, deal with absolute worst case scenarios when making decisions, as they should.

Option A: Staying at home, ice isnt dangerous

Give a frick level: 0/10, they already have built in days

Option B: Birmingham last year

Give a frick level: 10/10, you're looking for a new job

Great argument. Cant wait to go back to no A/C in schools and no water at football games. Maybe even put the coloreds on the back of the bus again

I don't buy your premise.

Another ad hominem. And I am the one accused of bringing drama to this thread.

It all works.

It worked today also. No one died, that I know of.

You're arguing that they didn't make the "best" decision (I assume.)

Weather related decisions will be second-guessed by those who have low/no risk, and probably have never made them in that situation.

I don't expect you to understand this, and withdraw from the conversation.

Fair enough. It's my opinion, that with much better technology it doesn't hurt to wait and have a better chance of getting it right. Thats all. We can agree to disagree. There is a boatload of difference between this system and the one in Alabama last year. Estimated accumulation for our area from this storm was never more than .10 of an inch if I'm not mistaken

I don't understand this. The Super is not a weather guy. He gets reports and makes decisions on that info. They did get it right. Getting it wrong is sending them out in icy conditions. Getting it wrong is making a decision so late that parents don't get the message and either drive to a closed school, or send their child down the street to a bus stop with no bus coming.

I used to be an OB Billy Badass about people coming to work when it snows / sleets. I hated that most of my employees used it as an excuse to not come to work. But a few years ago, I convinced one of my workers who is also a good friend to come to work and he almost wrecked on the way in. I would have felt like crap if that happened. We laugh about it today, but I'm not such a hard arse about it anymore.

We had several people leave early today because of the weather, and the store manager said he wouldn't fault anyone who thought they needed to leave.

Later, I overheard him bitching to the owner about "people who only THINK they want to work".

It's nice to know what they really think of you.

I can't even imagine the costs associated with a bad event involving a school bus after proving that the Super's office was aware of this and took no action. But then again, this is all I do every day all day.

It would be monumental. Where the other end, is a kid staying home where nothing happens.

I do loss control for insurance companies, so I'm not stoopid to the issues being dealt with. I simply said I thought it could wait.

Lot more families with both parents working than they were when I was a kid. Back then we would just stay home with Mom. These days, parents have to find someone to watch kids if they still have to go into work.

We home school our daughter, so my wife can make these decisions whenever she wants.

Good thing you have nothing to do with emergency prep. or safety. You'd be the genius telling everyone to wait to buy gas for the generator until the power goes out first.
