I carry with one in the chamber now. I used not to, but I studied the reaction time of having to rack the slide and I was shocked to learn the truth.

I have this board to thank.

As I have stated before, you're more likely to lose the use of one hand than to have to react super quickly. Both are important, but the first one is more of a risk statistically.

Although, it's not how I carry. The IDF is a highly trained and potent fighting force, their high speed guys Israeli carry and it keeps them alive. I will not discount this as hard evidence backs their carry decisions. That said, for civilian cc, always loaded, hammer cocked, safety on, perhaps tape around the grip safety if I'm feeling old school OSS special.

I now carry chambered...carrying an unloaded gun would be insane.

A friend who is with Tuscaloosa Police had told me to always hand them my drivers license and CCP with my registration and insurance when being stopped. That while legal for me to carry, officers appreciate my advising them. I know I am not required to so legally, but officers don't like to be surprised.

Recently I was stopped at a driver license checkpoint (roadblock), I handed him everything including the CCP and the officer asked me if mine was loaded/chambered. I replied yes. And then I asked him if his was loaded/chambered. He just smiled and said "always".
