It called Israeli Carry. If you train that way it may be a good fit for you. I personally like one in the chamber, but I don't carry a Glock so Glock Thigh does not concern me. Nor does accidental frag outs.

To me, speed and success of racking a pistol comes secondary to the worse reason to carry a handgun with an empty chamber.
You need both hands to rack a pistol efficiently. This does not mean it cannot be done with one hand, but it certainly becomes much more difficult.
If someone is on top of you, which is a very real possibility, and you only have one hand available, you are forced to beat them with your gun.
If your gun is holstered and the trigger is protected, there is no reason to engage a safety (unless carrying a SAO, 1911) and or carry with an empty chamber.

I carry chambered with safety on. I will practice drawing my gun (unloaded) while disengaging the safety. Its second nature to swipe the safety with my thumb now. Carrying unloaded just seems like you limit when the gun would even be useful ti carry to such a small amount of circumstances that its pointless.

Good luck w that when your life is at stake

Chance I'm willing to take. I honestly don't carry unless I feel I'm well practiced. If I feel like I haven't shot in a while or haven't practiced drawing, I leave the gun at home.

LOL...I'm POST certified and carry a Glock 22 .40 cal on duty. On my off days, I carry a Ruger SR1911 as my personal carry sidearm. Having said that, you rarely get that extra time to rack a round into the chamber in an upclose encounter. If he's not comfy carrying a pistol without a chambered round, a revolver may be his best bet.

Just coming to post about this. With training you can cut your reaction time A LOT. I carry loaded just because I don't train for this, but I had the opportunity to train with the current head of IDF small arms training. When you see these guys do it you won't completely dismiss the idea. They are faster than most people on this message board.

It is a really good point. The Israelis have Krav to fall back on and we train hard to get off the ground.

Here's my opinion on it.
If you think a safety is going to get you killed, you don't practice enough.

Coulda fooled me. I thought it was about why you should carry full pipe hammer back safety removed.

I carry condition 1 with either of my cc 1911s
I have no issues carrying condition 0 but that would also mean the zombies are out

I agree if flipping the thumb safety on condition 1 is a problem you probably shouldn't be carrying

I just read through the thread, and I'll admit I been whiskey sipping, but who said something about carrying a SA firearm chambered with the safety off in here?

I have children. I'm trained military and my primary weapon was a 1911 so my comfort with guns is fine.

I now carry chambered...carrying an unloaded gun would be insane.
