I've never seen a big cat. I've heard two.

That cat looks long haired.

Did it sound like a woman screaming?

The first one I heard was the classic "woman screaming" thing. I was 14 and walking a dry creek bed squirrel hunting and it let loose very close to me. Sounded like a woman being murdered. That was 28 years ago and I can hear it like it was yesterday. Never saw it.

The second was just a few years ago in some woods behind a friends house. It was quick, repetitive calls that sounded exactly like this. I listened to it for 5 or 10 minutes and even recorded the sound on an iPhone. Sent the sound file to the state and they blew me off.

No doubt. The response to my recording from the state was brief and to the point:

"I don't know what animal is making that sound but it isn't a big cat."

Better yet, ask anyone to present you with evidence of a melanistic cougar, since there has never been a single one shot, bred, or photographed on the entire earth.

And before you say it, melanism is present in about 5% of jaguars, so no one is going to believe that you, your redneck uncle, and seven guys in your Hunting club saw an extremely rare genetic occurrence of a cat which I don't believe has ever had a confirmed sighting in Louisiana in even its standard coloring.

I went back and dug up the sound file I was talking about a few posts up. If anyone has an idea what else it could be, I'd be interested to hear it. A fox is the only other thing I can think of it could possibly be.

Article in the new La sportsman where they call BS on them existing. I grew up in MS and saw what I swear on a stack of bibles, what I still believe, to be one near my home around the age of 11.

That one is a house cat though :)

Oh yeah, totally possible, brah..

My ol'man has been a vet for 35+ years and has only seen one in Tue wild once when he was coming back from hunting late one night at a friend's house..

He seen't it..
