I just don't get it, but I'm not a hunter. If you can see a target enough to hit it, how can you not see it enough to identify it? I guess I'm just spoiled by the quality of the hunters on the OB who actually talk about placement instead of shooting at anything that moves.

Hate to hear this.

Open sights right at daylight/dark is the only way I can imagine something like that happening and even then its inexcusable

I know the family and one of my dad's friends. We used to be in a club together. Very sad.

These stories are really beginning to piss me off. I just remember in the Hunter's Saftey Course, the instructor told all these stories that scared the crap out of me (13 at the time). That went a long way to making me know exactly what I'm shooting at.

Not saying accidents dont happen, but a human and a deer look ALOT different.

They made us watch a video where this ol boy was calling turkeys and wiping his mouth with a red hankerchief. Another guy slips up on him calling and only sees the red barely flash through the brush and bam! It freezes but you know he shot him theoretically, and how easy of a mistake that is to make.

Also, for the love of god, teach your kids and n00b hunter friends not to shoot at anything unless they know exactly what it is

What types of punishment do these people typically get? I understand that it's an accident but it's an easily preventable one and people need to go to jail for this shite.

He's not going to jail...the guy wasn't wearing orange, it is clearly an accident...franklin county is rural as frick...there's no overzealous anyone that will seek this man's prosecution

the family will undoubtedly try and sue him though...that's one thing the miss/lou does with stunning regularity

Hopefully, the slow move away from "if brown, it's down" hunting will make the wood safer. If someone is looking for horns before they take a shot, maybe they will be less likely to just blast at a bush or movement.

I had a shot at some hogs yesterday while riding around the club. However, I knew there was a stand at the top of the next hill. While I had just driven by there 10 minutes before and no one was there and no one was at the camps, I couldn't be 100% sure no one had climbed in since then. So, the hogs got a second chance.
