That summary tells me that many of those shots we hear while in stand are not verified legal deer shots. I hunt northeast of there and bucks require 10" inside spread or 13" main beam. So just to shoot at movement one is guessing at hog or deer. In this case a human. I almost shutter at taking off my orange in the woods when transferring my backpack or climbing stand but how in the world do you shoot at movement? What a loss for this family and a hunter forever changed. We can all get a little more careful from this.

Hunted in SW Arkansas this week and the owner told me to be sure and wear the orange vest and cap at all times…EVEN IN THE STAND. He said it's state law and that if green jeans comes up to your stand and sees you without it on, it's a sure-fire ticket. First I've ever heard of this requirement of keeping it on while in the stand.

Public land here in LA is the same. You can climb a tree but better have solid orange vest and cap on at all times.

This angers me so much. Its astounding the sheer fricking stupidity and irresponsibility some people have. Im to the point now where i will only hunt during bow season. Im waterfowl hunting the rest of the year. frick getting shot by some dumbass that doesnt know his arse from a hole in the ground.

Maybe they just shoot at any movement they see?

Fox I am family and no one is suing anyone. It has been a long and traumatic day, I still don't understand how anyone can mistake a man walking in the woods by his ground blind as deer. He had his orange on walking in but got out of the blind very briefly and that is when the "accident" happened.

What types of punishment do these people typically get? I understand that it's an accident but it's an easily preventable one and people need to go to jail for this shite.

You see these in the news all the time, and the sheriff or DA will often say that no charges will be pressed because it was a tragic accident.

bullshite. If some dumbass shoots me because he is so idiotic that he thinks I am a deer, then he needs to go to jail. If you drive your car in a criminally negligent manner and hurt or kill someone, you can be charged with a crime. People who forget their kid in the car sometimes get charged with a crime.

If you shoot a high-powered rifle at something without knowing what or who it is, and you kill or wound a person, you should be charged.

That is the best way to deter this sort of idiotic shooting.

Sadly it would probably do nothing as far as preventing them. Dumbasses who shoot at movement will still do the same, and those that have accidentally shot someone once aren't gonna do it again anyway unless they really are retarded.

It won't bring Ricky back and although extremely negligent Danny will have to live with this burden the rest of his life. We are coping but it's just hard pill to swallow knowing it was so preventable.

You mean NOTHING alike.

It boggles my mind how this happens. It really should be negligent homicide, at a minimum. People who shoot people are criminals. A hunting "accident" is NOT when a hunter points and shoots his weapon pointing at another human

This always seems to happen on public land where your once in a blue moon hunters go.

There are laws in Ms. you can not legally shoot smaller bucks. This a-hole knew he could be breaking the law when he pulled the trigger! He wasn't concerned that he could be shooting an illegal deer, MUCH LESS A HUMAN!!

I instructed my family if this ever happens to me, don't sue for money or jail time. I want their gun and hunting rights taken away for LIFE

I can't imagine anyone hunting public land and not wearing orange- THE ENTIRE time too.
