Just curious.
My uncle has a mountain cur who is supposed to be pretty good.
How is squirrel hunting with a dog? Never been and he wants to go.

Grew up hunting them with a dog. It was always my favorite type of hunting.

It's a freaking blast with a mountain cur. Get after it.

I love it. Grew up doing it.

Runs all the squirrels off and ruins other still squirrel hunters opportunity

You hunt with a dog after the leaves and acorns fall off the trees. The squirrels are on the ground anyway and will run up a tree and stay or go in a hole.

My FIL has 3 mountain curs. Damn good treeing dogs.

It's fun as hell.
My English coonhound does pretty good on squirrels in the daytime.

My old man has always had jack russells for squirrels. Trains them himself and they are pretty good. That said, we hunt w mountain curs and they are great squirrel dogs.
We are actually in the market for another... If anyone knows of a good dog that needs a good home

Don't forget, it's unsportsman like and should be banned.
I personally just keep my squirrels in a high fence and only shoot trophies.

Using a good dog (and different people have a different definition of what's a "good" dog), it's a lot of fun and ranks as one of my FAVORITE forms of hunting.

Never been and he wants to go.
2 suggestions.
1. Be sure you understand WHERE you'll be hunting so you'll know whether you'll need to wear regular boots (mostly dry land) or rubber boots (mostly wet land).
2. We like to carry a number of different guns in our hunting party. Always at least one shotgun (12 gauge or 16 gauge) followed by a scoped semi-automatic 22LR, +/- a scoped 17 Mach 2.
ETA: Expect to walk a LOT.

My dad has raised, trained and sold treeing squirrel dogs for years. IMO, the most enjoyable time in the woods with family and friends.

I've never hunted squirrels with dogs, but I've seen it on tv a few times and it looks like a blast.
I wish I knew someone with good dogs.

If you can't tell his joke was a play on the anti deer dog hunters, an emoticon wouldn't help you
