It's hard to reply to something like this.

I'll contribute to the cost of the wall -- Mexico can reimburse me later.

It seems that some have already decided that their story is true. I am very skeptical of the story as they describe it. I live in the region and have been down to that area several times and just don't see it happening. You had local sherriff, DPS and Border Patrol on scene with no evidence to support their story. Once ballistics come back maybe we can get clearer picture.

This is pure nuts. I'm currently on my way home from a trip to big bend/marfa and I always worry about this kind of stuff down there.

I live in Brewster County and frequent Big Bend and the general border area. I have been in the area where this happened. You have nothing to worry about. People camp along the river in the park all the time. Landowners on the US side experience little trouble. This is very unusual. That is why I am skeptical of the story. I am just going to wait for the facts to come out.

I know they get in the stands and sleep sometimes to get off the ground

This is what I was most afraid of. All of our stands, except for 1, are like the one in my avi, ~20' tower stands. If they're in there and hear you coming up the stairs and decide they don't want to go peacefully, all they gotta do is throw the door open on you when you get up to that tiny platform and you're most likely taking a pretty good tumble.

We leased some land around Dryden that was really close to the border.

The plan was to camp on the lease (10000+ acres).

After our first day there and seeing like 8-10 border patrol units on the lease we decided to make like the 1hr+ drive to the nearest shite hole hotel for the trip.

This was 15 years ago. I'm sure we would have been fine, but its not worth the chance since it was just 2 of us.

We saw border patrol almost everyday.

It was a blast and id love to get over there again. However, id probably come a little better armed than last time.

ETA: we definitely saw signs that we weren't alone. May have been old signs, but they were there.

Where is down there? This is not South Texas or some violent border region

I was in Iraan, they would come up and ask for water or cigs.

I remember them having car tires cut up and tied on as shoes, I was an 20 yr old college student working in the oil field for summer money.

I felt sorry for them but was scared shitless. Marathon would not allow us to be armed.

No, no one around us does that I know of. Never had any reason to in the past.

Reading the update, I doubt it was cross border violence.

I used to turkey hunt a ranch near Del Rio. The first year we hunted it, the ranch manager gathered us up for a talk. He said that this ranch was a high traffic area for illegals. His words were "You will probably encounter some on your trip. Most are harmless. Let them go about their business. But if one becomes aggressive in any way, kill them. I have a place for them." We all grinned thinking that he was making a joke. The guy never cracked a smile. I'm pretty sure he was serious. Thankfully I never had any trouble. The few we saw there over the years would tear off through the brush as soon as they saw us.
