This. I hunt to relax not take orders from a self important hunt master. I don’t see how you strict rule club baws abide.

Allegedly I set the world record ride when i spurred a fourtrax for something like 3.5 minutes after hearing Garth brooks dammed ol rodeo!! There was no phones back then to determine if it was a qualified ride or not!!
I was “legally drunk” but not camp drunk at the time.

Duck is a whole lot easier on rules than deer.

Oh no. Just fortunate enough to get an invite or two a year when the place isn't ruined by flood. Those rules...damn.

Those deer this year are insane. Great year for that area.

The rules need to be that way with the amount of $ these guys invest. Its working.

2 years of basically not being able to hunt will make for some big deer.

Yeah, I get it. The problem I have is, the owners actually want their guest to shoot bucks. Figuring out how to decide on a legal buck is just too much pressure for me. Especially archery hunting when you don't have time to study the animal. Also, it's kinda counter intuitive. For instance, with 8 points, you are better off shooting one that score low.

I got luck with my one buck kill there. It was an old 6 point, and damn near any 6 point is legal there.

My boss gets to hunt Davis occasionally and he says the same thing. I believe the only thing he has shot was some old 4 pt cull that they knew was in a particular area. He has watched some studs but wasn't sure they qualified.

I've never been a member at a club. Do get to hunt extended family place couple times a year but only allowed to shoot does, but my kids are approved for certain bucks. So many rules in place that my kids are scared to shoot does or buck though. My daughter has had some nice deer in front of her with her bow that she ended up not getting a shot on because she is texting me to figure out if it is a shooter. Still trying to get her a buck with her bow.

Uncle tells me a story about one of his friends hunting at a club with guide. Friend raises up to shoulder rifle and the guide whispers that he (friend) can afford that buck

“about to deal with same thing ourselves. We have a couple new members put up personal secret stands in the woods and not telling anyone else where they are on the map board. I'm not going to hunt your shitty secret ladder stand that you just bought, but don't hide it 300 yds next to a box stand that is on the map board“

Judging by the in stand threads and other post I think I know where you hunt. I used to hunt there as well. And I think I’ll tell MM about this post. We’ll see how that works out for you

That shite just takes all the fun out of it for me. If ages/inches have to be exact then I'm not going to be the one making that call.

Ours are simple. you get one "good" buck and one "cull" a year. We don't define those... just try to shoot older deer and not come back with something you're embarrassed you shot. We all know generally what the bigger deer around look like what what a 2.5 year old 8 looks like. No need to over complicate things or bring money into it. No one is going to be anything but happy if your kid shoots the first thing that walks out on his first hunt. And shoot more does damnit.

The club I used to be a member in was almost all family and has been around for over 50 years. Supposedly one of the oldest in the state. My dad and I got out a few years ago because we had more stands than we could hunt on our personal land. I was basically subsidizing other hunters as I was only hunting on the club a couple of times a year. My dad had been a member since founding and I had hunted there as a kid and became a member when I turned 18.

Its rules were 3 personal stands per membership. A person could buy multiple memberships if they wanted. Stands had to be labeled with certain tags provided by the club. If you wanted more stands than that, they were open to anyone. No tag meant open. No hunting anyone else's labeled stands without specific permission. All stands at least 300 yards apart and out of direct line of sight.

That has worked well for generations now. And if you think "family clubs" means less drama . . . you are wrong!

And this should be popular here: No alcohol on the club. Now, I would assume that some people had alcohol in their camps but you didn't bring it in the open where anyone could see.

My last one was that way. I would rive to Jonesville, buy a sixer, then listen to LSU games parked on a turnrow.

My grandfather died 45 years ago but still rules that club from his grave. His rules are still club rules though they have tweaked them over the years due to changes in hunting styles.

It was/is mostly family with a lot of kids hunting. I know personally I don't want to hunt around anyone drinking. That also appears to be another difference between North and South Louisiana but not a hard line distinction in either case.

We have two pages of damn rules. And every rule was written because of something some a-hole did in the past. The latest a-hole is one who will ask the landowner if he can break the rules. wtf. At least we only have one like that.

Our stands are all camp stands. we are very good about selecting appropriate stands daily that correspond to the wind direction. Never had an argument. I guess we just have that many productive stands where it isnt an issue.
