Heading to hunt the hills of SW Wisconsin this year and looking to get some good boots for the terrain. With Cabela's being bought out I figured I should start looking now. I have thick insulated knee boots but those are not good for hiking up the side of hills, looking at getting some good insulated waterproof lace-ups. Any recommendations?

lace ups suck in snow. Get some pull up neoprene. I wear Xtratuf insulated. You can also get extra insulation for them. These are worn everywhere up here.

If you do get low, lace ups get you some gaiters.

Ill be bringing knee boots in case the snow is deep. They are just not ideal because we will be covering a lot of ground on foot.

Went to Montana last year and some buddies had danner pronghorn 400g boots. They like them a lot. Said their feet were warm and they were very light. They usually retail to 210$ but I found some for 149$ This week At bobwards.com

Keen!

The boots I wore hiking and hunting when I lived in upstate NY. Deep, wet snow and steep terrain were plentiful. Doing upland bird hunts and deer hunts we covered a lot of ground.

Never been in as much snow as what you you'll be looking at but I'd say something with leather, plenty of thinsulate, and gore-tex.

My buddy lives in Eau Claire, WI and he is an avid hunter.
He wears Danner Pronghorns.

When you pair up a good 8" boot with a pair of Goretex pants it doesn't matter how deep the snow is.

Got some, work great in the Rockies, but that's horseback riding and steep rocky sidehill type walking. Deep snow Wisconsin, you're gonna want some really high boots, really thick insulation, and gaiters if lace-up

We are headed to Colorado in November for an Elk rifle hunt. I picked up some Cabelas Backcountry Instinct Boots out the bargain cave. They are 8" goretex with 400g thinsulate and not very heavy. Regular price 249.99. I paid $38. Not sure what size boots you wear or if that price is still good but worth looking at if you are close to Cabelas. I was expecting them to be around $90 but there were other discounts I wasn't aware of and I damn sure wasn't going to argue when she told me the total.

Yeah I am looking to get something out of the Bargain Cave as well, these boots will only be used one the two weeks a year so not trying to break the bank.

Will be up there early to mid-november so hopefully the snow won't be that bad.

I've been up there 3 times during early November for whitetail hunts and I've never had to deal with snow of any significance.

ETA: Looked up weather data for Southwest Wisconsin
Site didn't show any snowfall counts for October
Showed the following for November

Southwest Wisconsin
November snowfall averages
Days Place Inches
1.2 Beaver Dam 1.8
0.7 Beloit 1.3
3.1 La Crosse 4.1
3.8 Madison 3.6
1.1 Prairie Chien 1.5
2.5 Viroqua 5.1
1.8 Wisconsin Dells 2.8

It's possible that it might snow early November maybe 1 or 2 days per year but it will be probably less than an inch or two.

I've been past 3 yrs closer to Clintonville. All in the first week of November. Thermacell last year for a few days. Only real snow we've encountered was 2014 and it wasn't bad. I take same clothes and lacrosse boots I wear in East Tx, South Ar, and around Vicksburg, Ms. one of the coldest places was Vicksburg last year first of the year. Hope this helps.

Yeah after talking to some of the guys I will be going up with they have said the past two - three years have been warm so may go for something a little bit lighter weight and just hope it ends up not being too cold.
