Just got an email that Hunter's run in Port Allen is "suspending operations" as of 12/26/16, seems to be issues with getting lease renewed. Hope they come to an agreement and everything works out

anybody hear anything?

quote:

We at Hunters Run Gun Club regret to inform our members that Monday, December 26, 2016 will be our final day of operation while we temporarily suspend operations at our current location. The lease for the public land on which Hunters Run operates has expired. If Sheriff Mike Cazes puts the land out for public bid, we hope to win that bid! All memberships will be temporarily suspended until Hunters Run resumes operations.

-PLEASE STAY TUNED FOR DAILY UPDATES AND MORE INFORMATION

I'm sure the liability coverage is astronomical for these places

I have been there a handful of times, do they have a good number of shooters on a given day?

It has been a while since I have been, seems like the Thursday night fun shoot was pretty well attended, Saturdays and Sunday mornings seemed to have a decent number of shooters, all of course being weather dependent

they have been through a number of managers in the past few years, I dont know, i wish them the best

It didnt sound like money was the problem, just that the lease is up with the sheriff. They hope that they are able to get it back if it goes out for public bid. Sounds kind of strange to me.

It was just to small to hold any significant size NSCA shoots.

Not really -- they hosted the state tournament a couple of years ago. Their problem recently has been a shortage of trap machines and turnover of staff.

HR isn't "closing." There will be a temporary hiatus if the high sheriff chooses a lessee other than the current one. They will have to sort through what assets belong to the sheriff & which ones are owned by the current tenant (Ron Duplessis). Basically the sheriff owns the land -- but I think there is some question about which fixed assets were sold to the sheriff (and which were retained by the former owner) when the land was sold.

Talk among the members is that a local landowner submitted a higher bid -- but it's not a "signed & sealed" deal yet.

Best guess is that it'll take 6-8 weeks to gear up (irrespective of who the lessee is).

Is the thought that it will open again to the public no matter who wins the lease?

The problem isn't having enough shooters. The lease is up.

I can say with absolute certainty that the "local landowners" bid was not the high bid. However, that was the one accepted by the sheriff. (against state bid law) Process invalidated. Angry eviction notice served.

Care to elaborate? So the sheriff tried to accept a bid that wasnt the highest?

I'm not at liberty to say too much, and I probably already have. There is a lot about this that does not pass the sniff test.
