So the sheriff tried to accept a bid that wasnt the highest?

How could the sheriff of a ruralish parish not follow state law?? I've never heard of such a thing.

none of this surprises me, I just wonder what else the property could be used for? With as many years that it has been open the amount of lead in the soil out there has to be astronomical, I would think it would be unsafe for agriculture purposes?????

In the whole screwed up process, the bid notice specified running a gun club on that land. It even listed HRGC by name, which is idiotic as that isn't the intellectual property of WBR Sheriff.

They have collected the lead before, not sure how long its been.

But even if they keep it a gun club, what are the odds of it being public?

They hosted State because about 4 years ago the club owners decided it wasn't fair for one club ( Cajun Elite) to host all the events ( main, prelims, subgauge, 5-stand, Fitasic) at one time. Places like Hunters run, and GOL aren't big enough to hold all the events. Once they started breaking it down and giving each club an event the LSCA went downhill. I've shot probably a 100 times at Hunters run. It's not big enough to be more than a little play Sporting course and a couple skeet fields. We had one of the nicest venues in the Country in Cajun Elite but Lynn and Phobe's kids ran it in the ground.

HRGC has space limitations that are getting worse. This may work out to be a blessing in disguise for shooters once it all works out.

Soooooo pissed at the Cajun elite a-hole family that fricked that place up.

It looks like there will be a push to have the lease extended until the proper bid process can take place.

I wonder what kind of money it takes to get a place like that leased.

Above or below the table?

I'm sure it's not cheap, and frankly that sort of a place is a labor of love vs cash cow.

Sounds like you shot there quite a bit. I'm sure I've shot there at least 400 times (skeet, clays, rifle & pistol). I've been a member there for at least 10 years.

If you're comparing the long shots that Cajun Elite offered, you're right. But nobody complains about target distances at Riverside & Covey Rise --- and HR's traps can be set at longer distances than either of them when they use the skeet fields for registered shoots.

Of course Cajun Elite is no more (for public shooting), and GOL is about in the same boat. The real issue is that there are very few choices now, and those few spend most of their efforts on benefit shoots instead of registered shoots (I presume they are generally more profitable).

When Eddie Baker was club manager, there was a registered shoot virtually every month at HR. Same when Carey Tassin & Gary Hallam were club managers. The current/recent problem at HR is/was primarily the lack of working trap machines (13 at last count).

Irrespective of who the sheriff chooses (and I'm not at all sure that he is required to take the high bid), I hope they get it back running quickly. It's not perfect, but it's a fine site when well run.

I'm talking about acreage available to host quality shoots. There is nothing wrong with HR as a gun club. It's great for guys on that side of the basin to go and shoot some targets or site in the rifles. My point is it's not set up to be a legitimate SC course. It's frankly not big enough. I'm not knocking the guys who have ran it over the years that's just the cards they were dealt in that location. And as far as Targets go Hawk sets the best targets in the state second only to maybe Reggie Q.

Id be interested in knowing the cost. Its not like many people get shot or injured in gun clubs. You hear a random story every year or two.

I'm curious as to the scuttlebutt down there. I'm sure the gossip is flying. I know it was yesterday.
