We got our Golden out of MS. Best dog I ever owned. She's got a beautiful dark coat and will retrieve all day long. Never shown a single sign of aggression and wants to be loved on 24/7. My buddy got a female golden from a guy in Amite, LA and she's a damn good dog. If you start training goldens from when they are really young they are going to be great dogs. They want nothing more than to please.

I know nothing of them but this thread but if they strictly Breed for that whiter cream color I'd stay away. They are breeding for strictly color and that's all. I've had Golden's all my life and so have my parents and they have all been great retrievers, used 2 for duck hunting and we didn't train them overly well nor sought excellent genes but they were plenty serviceable.

They've also all lived to 12-14. Beyond their truly healthy years frankly, just go so old their bodies fell apart. I'm not doubting cancer is there, but we've never had issues with that nor heard of it being prevalent but maybe that's just by luck.

Definitely have to find the right food due to the skin allergies, and they definitely shed. Outside of that it's hard to find a better house dog imo. I take my current dog to the dog park and she prefers to run up to owners to be pet then to play with other dogs.

So you would stay away from hunnington? Was this recently?

I probably wouldn't have another one of their dogs. He had the best personality of any animal I've ever met and he was about as good looking a dog as I've ever seen, a total chick magnet. The poor guy just had way too many health issues. I've spoken to other people who had the same issues with Hunnington. It's obvious these dogs are super inbred.

His hips gave out at 10. He suffered constantly from terrible skin allergies. He had to be sent all over the country getting spinal taps because of a mystery ailment that left him paralyzed for a month. I couldn't go through that again.

UPT you're worrying me but the good stories at HF seem to out weigh the bad. The shedding doesn't bother me the black lab sheds awfully bad and the hair really doesn't bother me. The roomba tries to take care of it

Their Goldendoodles aren't very impressive at all. I'd suggest a goldendoodle for your needs but not from them.

Maybe triple L isn't quite showdog quality but I honestly think he is one of the best looking goldens I've seen. He's slim but still sturdy and his coat is crazy soft.

Triple L definitely has good looking pups but based off of what I've seen there's really no comparison to the coats of Hunnington or either other breeders dogs. My dog had a longer and thicker coat at 6 months than my buddy's dog currently has at a year and a half old. Here's mine at 11 months.

I've never understood the love for the cream color. I mean they are great looking dogs but I like the darker color.

Diff strokes for different folks. Its like those in the lab world that like the white, red, silver lab. I don't care for them but people like to be different.

English Cream I think is more the standard in Europe. My 2.5 mth golden is a mix between dark dad and white mom. Looking like he will fall in with a traditional lighter golden color (not white).

Yeah my sister just got an English Cream golden a couple months ago and it's basically white. I don't like it nearly as much as the darker traditional golden but it's definitely a beautiful dog.

I guess I should have worded it differently. What I meant was everybody I talked to after getting my dog didn't understand why I went with the darker coat when there were cream or lighter colors available from the same breeder.

On another note has anybody heard that the darker coat goldens tend to be better retrievers. I've heard from several people that this is the case and my female is a really really good retriever. I personally think this is BS but I've heard it from several people that I'd consider "dog people".

The darker goldens are field bred and have better hunting bloodlines (typically) and the lighter goldens are bred more for looks and to be house pets.

Makes since. My golden has a strong drive to retrieve. It's a shame I don't have the time to duck hunt like I did when I was younger.

The breeder I went with had mostly darker colored field goldens. A lot of field and hunt awards.

Same. Personal preference, though, and is largely divided along hunt/bench lines. I also avoid long hair . Long haired dogs are a disaster in the marsh.

I prefer the darker color but its the girlfriend's dog and she likes the lighter ones. Yeah I couldn't deal with all that hair duck hunting thats what the black lab is for.
