Why would anyone need to buy a gun if you don't hunt? Also live in a town so no place to shoot for fun.

Wow, yes you are paranoid. I'm not from the south so I don't know all the types of game which you hunt. I also forgot guns which may have been passed down or ones which may be collector's items.
People asked why I don't buy guns. I said I don't have a need because I don't hunt. Do you buy snowmobiles?
I asked an innocent question about trading. There are a few guys I know who just love trading things and getting a good deal.
You can take off your tin foil hat anytime now. Is everyone from the south this paranoid? Just because I don't buy guns doesn't mean I have anything against them. If I lived in the country or hunted a lot, I'd probably own a few.
I realize now my 2-3 was a low number. Most of my hunting friends probably have between 5-10.

Nobody is mad that you have an opinion.

They're mad because you're insulting them.

Sorry if I came across that way. I was asking questions to learn. Some people actually like to understand different ways of thinking and cultures. If people asked me why I need so many different golf clubs or baseball cards I'd be happy to explain.
Again, in no way was I trying to insult anyone.
The trouble with message boards is that you can't pick up on people's tone like you can in person. I wasn't trying to start a debate of any kind, but I guess some took it that way. Maybe I used a poor choice of words. I also realize this is a "hot button" topic and I'm guessing many of you get criticized for owning so many guns. I'm not one of those people. I've said my piece and the thread has gotten off track.
Back to the main question!!

Haven't bought any since my big boating accident.

If I had guns for hunting I'd have a long range deer rifle for clearcuts and pipelines and a short range knockaround rifle for stalking, blood trailing, scouting or just bogging around during deer season. I'd also have several shotguns like a big semi auto for waterfowl and a smaller semi or double for small game and birds. I'd prolly also have a couple of rimfires and small centerfires for plinking and turtle control. Then there are "primitive" weapons for deer and special slugguns, varmint rifles and turkey guns also. I'd also have guns that were passed down from family members as well as gifted to me. Not to mention kids don't want to use your guns or wait until you die to get their own so I'd probably buy 007jr some as well. By the time I'd get all those bought there will probably be some better options or new hunting oppurtunities available and I'd need to upgrade my collection.

A few. I had all I needed until the unfortunate capsize of the boat as I was crossing the Mississippi River. The current was too fast and river too deep, blah, blah, blah....

Thanks, love it! Great points and best response yet! I forgot about other family members. If your spouse/kids hunt, then quadruple the number might be needed.

OK, I took off my tin foil hat.

Gotta go guys, I'm taking my 1911 out to go turkey hunting for a while. Maybe I'll get a big one!

Good luck, I'd love to see that. I've never been turkey hunting before.
