For example, if I were to kill ducks/geese in the morning, put them in the fridge (or leave them in the back of the truck if below 40 let's say) then clean them in the evening when I get back from work, they should be fine right? What's the longest you guys have ever gone before cleaning and storing? Ive always only cleaned ducks/geese right after the hunt and had them in ziplocs and in the fridge/freezer by noon.

I can tell you with 100% certainty they'll stay good for a 45-minute boat/truck ride from the lake. That's the extent of my expertise.

I've kept whole ducks in the fridge/chest from Saturday A.M. and cleaned Sunday P.M. with no problems

I have run a knife through the belly gutted them and left them outside in a cooler in 42 degree weather from 18:00 to 07:30 before with no problems. Recommended? No but ate the hell out of them with no sickness.

Several days, some old timers used to hang them a week or more when it was cold.

I've kept them in the fridge 2-3 days a time or two. I had one that was shot up real bad and was bad. I promise you will know if it's bad. That bird smelled like bad vagina stuffed with week old fish guts. I actually think they're easier to pluck if they been a fridge a couple hours.

This, we gut them and hang them heads up for days in cold temps.

Ive left them in the bed of my truck for the rest of the day and cut them that night. Might have been a little off, but not bad.
