How do you kill (which method) the fish that you keep?

Japanese video of the whale shark getting cut up and all of the outrage associated with it has me wondering what others do.
I have always tossed the fish straight into the cooler with ice. We never bashed the fish over the head with a bat first, but apparent a bunch do that first.
What's your process for keeping the fish that you eat?

If they die before I get the filet knife fired up then they're dead. If not they get skinned alive

Just throw em in the ice box. Always dead by the time I clean them

Larger fish die slower than bream. Sometimes, they need to be knocked in the head.

If the fish is large and going apeshit in the boat (ling, dorado, tuna) then it gets bashed in the head. All else gets put straight on ice.

I only bash the head of hardhead and sail catfish so I don't get caught by a fin while takin the hook out of their mouth

Live well first. Then if I catch enough, from live well to ice. If I don't catch enough I throw them back.

Only tuna, wahoo, amberjack and big snapper get the bat. Anyone who has had a big offshore fish stab them in the foot or slap them in the ankle will be quick with the bats once they get on board.

When certain large species are brought aboard it is wise to kill them with a club or kill them quickly in some manner to prevent injury or death to those on board. I personally have seen a large jumping King Mackerel cause serious injury to some people who were with me on a charter. I remember a fisherman being killed by a large halibut in the Northwest. You have to subdue some species quickly and decisively.

Just saw the video. Anyone know where I can get the knife they were using? Should quicken my filet time immensely.

I spoon it, while whispering into its gills, "you are going to be okay". They just drift off peacefully.

It depends on what I'm fishing

On ice quickly, close lid, no need to look for the living in the place of the dead and dying

Ice chest. Only thing ever caught that we actually killed is gar.

It's Chinese not Japanese....and to whittle down a live animal like that is pretty frisked up.....
