We always used plywood for all our doors. Never had trouble with it.

I have a friend who has a place in Boligee Alabama who takes a backhoe and digs a pit 8' x 8' and 4 feet deep with straight sides. Then he hangs a spinning feeder from a cable with corn above the center of the hole. The feeder is low enough that all the corn goes into the pit and the hogs can't resist it. They jump in and then cannot get out.

If a deer goes into pit to eat the corn it can just jump out, but the hogs cant jump out.

For saftey he puts 4 "T" posts around the outside with an orange rope about 4-5 feet up to keep a hunter from falling in pit at night (if they did not have a light).

Then he uses backhoe to lift hogs out and dump in gut pit.

He has killed a couple of hundred over the last couple of years with this method.

Simple and foolproof.

Sounds like a good idea. But it would be just my luck to check the pit and find an enraged 300 lb. boar with six inch cutters that was also a good jumper...

So what are the chances that the trap i built will hold those pigs?

I'd worry more about them going into the trap. Looks sturdy enough to hold from that pic if they can't get under the wire.

I could tell you exactly, down to the ounce.

But I won't since you won't reply to anyone in the other thread you started today, lol

Pretty nice peaches on that boar, I believe the sows look to be 125.

That seems like a lot of work and you have to dig a new trap every time you need to move to a new location. Plus, the sides may be straight when he digs it, but it wouldn't take much for the sides to slump or a hog to dig himself a ramp out of there.

He has 4-5 of them that he has been using for several years. If you keep the corn out they will return. Or maybe he has stupid hogs on his place.

It works for him. I luckily do not have hogs on my place. I was just explaining how he does it...

Most are in the 120-150 range.

That biggest one might weigh 180.

That trap has 0% of holding those pigs over night

this one was about 1/2 the size of the one i killed last week. This is the 1st one to get caught in the trap.

I would bet the majority of the pigs in the pics were just under 100. The biggest I saw might go 150.

I agree on weights.

The odds of that trap containing large hogs is proportional to how long they're in it before you euthanize 'em. As you know, the longer they're penned up, the wilder they get.
