Hot weather fishing strategies?

How do you handle fishing during the heat? Freshwater interest from me but could apply to salt I guess.
Pack it in, fish won't bite in the middle of the day / hottest part of the day?
Fish deeper?
Other?

sun screen. lots of drinking water. concentrate on shady areas. take frequent breaks (sit down, relax, enjoy the nature around you).
caught my bass yesterday in full sun from 1-4 pm flipping heavy jigs in thick duckweed around button willows and logs. it was brutal but I could go 50 yds for total shade when I needed a break.

That being said. I like to fish early in the summer. Be idling down the canal before first light. When you can see.... Run. Get back before the hottest part of the day

When fishing the hottest parts of the day I like to find cover adjacent to channels or deep water.
I like to fish the wind blown lily pad mats here in Florida. The best ones are adjacent to both deep water and grass flats where the fish can rest, cool off and move in to feed when they want.

Fish until 9 am, go in and return around 6 pm.

Yes in Orlando, I like to fish the winter park chain of lakes and a couple of old sink hole lakes.
Winter park lakes have some nice fish and I have done well flipping pad mats on hot days.
During the summer the bass will school up and bust shad in open water. I have had good trips cruising around following the schools. Not many big ones like that but some decent numbers if you can stay on the fish.

I've caught some slot fish in the 6.5 range in 3' of water on 95 degree days at Natchez lake and that place has some deep holes.
Fishing Bayou Sorrel and Pigeon I'd always put down the spinner bait and fish the edges of cover real slow. Had to deal with plenty of choupique but would always catch my biggest for the day when doing that mid day

FelicianaTigerfan brings up a good point, I definitely have to slow the bait down later in the day. I will catch fish in the hot part of the day on faster baits but they are mostly small. Where I fish the bigger ones won't go very far to grab it so you have to drop it on their nose at times.

Shade is key. Weather that be pads, docks, trees, etc...one of my favorite things to do is swim a jig under party barges and around marinas. A lot of times fish suspend right under the pontoons and you won't catch them bumping the bottom.
