Heading to academy at lunch. Any suggestions on a good hollow point round for my Smith and Wesson Shield 9?

Thanks

Federal HST is the only proper answer.

Good luck. I went to Academy for the same thing the other day. They had lots of .380 in hp but none in 9mm.

I load all my 9mm pistols with Winchester PDX1.

It has good reviews and easy to find. Nothing more to it than that.

Just do a search for it online and buy it in the 50rd box. If you get two it cuts down on the impact of shipping plus you can test your carry guns with it and have plenty leftover. For about 70 dollars to your door you can get 100 rds of hst and be very prepared

Anything between 110-130 grains that isn't hand loaded is the answer.

The heavy 9mm loads are so slow you can see the golden saber 147s in flight.

I like powerball, everyone hates it.

I also like the federals, most love it.

Be sure to shoot a few boxes of the ammo to make sure your handgun runs it correctly. I had a glock that had trouble with golden sabers, no idea why.

These days, I carry Buffalo Bore.

Sad to report Academy on the NOrthside of Lafayette only had Remington Hollow points.

What's a good website to order some HST?

HST or 135 Gr Critical duty. I like the Critical Duty for the shorter barrel guns.

Remington Golden Sabre +P - mainly because Sportsmans Guide had them on sale - $14 for a box of 25

ETA: Slickguns.com has a link for the HST for $25 per box of 50

First of all, here's a highly regarded summary of effective self defense ammunition: Self Defense Ammo

I've ordered from these Oklahoma folks before. Unlike some places (Cheaper Than Dirt comes to mind) they don't rip you off on shipping charges. They've currently got the several types of HST, Gold Dot, and Golden Sabre in stock (but pay attention to the bullet weights). SGAmmo.com

That's legit info -- from Doc GKR. He's pretty much the expert on terminal ballistics for handgun, rifle & shotgun ammo.

TAFJ,
There's no "single" answer as to your question, but there a large number of highly respected 9mm self defense loads. You're job is to find the one (or maybe 2) that you shoot the best and your gun likes the best. As already suggested, the above link has lots of good recommendations and observations; use it as your guide. You'll find the rest of the article enlightening as well. Pick one or two of the self defense loads that are highly recommended and obtainable then try them in your gun. The one(s) that you shoot the best and your gun handles the best should become YOUR load. Having said that, I shoot 124 gr Remington Golden Saber and 124 gr Speer Gold Dot in my 9mm.
