But you have somewhat weakened your 4x6

...which should have been oriented parallel to your gate anyway which sounds like it might not be, unless it's at a corner

Yes. It will look less like a bear's butt sewed up with barbed wire if you do that.

Exactly.

Tacking a 2x4 on the back side of the 4x4 to make it on plane with the 4x6 corners doesn't look good.

When you see it once you notice it on a lot of wood fences. A lot of people make this mistake. Don't compound it and make another mistake by doing the "easy" fix. Notch the 4x6 and make it clean.

Do you even wood work bro? (Sorry I had to...)

This is true. I meant your runners will be stronger, but you will be making your 4x6's essentially 4x4's since we all know a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link.

Pull the 4x6s and set them back the way they should be.

Attach an 8ft 2x4 (I used a good chain) at the base and put a short 4x4 close to where it's attached (for leverage). Pull down on the end of the 2.4 and the 4x6 will come up. Knock the concret off with a sledge hammer and reset them correctly.

It isn't hard at all. I pulled about 5 4x4 set in 2ft holes by myself.

Just put a 2x4 spacer. You won't be able to tell a 1/2" difference.

DO NOT dig out and try to move the posts. They'll never be as strong as they are now.

You using 2x4 runner, just butt em up to the post, leaving the slat side flat and run your slats across, no one will be the wiser. That is the way I do all of them with hangers, that way you don't have that awkward outside corner that is created by just putting the runners on the outside.

I would run my stringers into the 4x5 post edge flush and toe nail it. Come back with a 2x4 underneath the stringers and screw them into the 4x6s to support the stringers.

Just pull the 4x6's and replace them with 4x4's.

Do it right, it's just a simple mistake that cost you about $30, right?

I would redo it and avoid "fixing it". Better to do it now than later when you may or may not have structural issues.

The 4X6 supports a large gate. I can't replace those 2. It's less than 20 foot on that run so it's not really a huge deal.
