I've narrowed my choice to those two, but am struggling to decide on one. Heard a lot about the PPQs sweet trigger but have found lots to like in the VP9. Any opinions about one over the other would be much appreciated, especially from owners.

Bapple did a video comparing the two and if you search, there is a thread comparing the two

I have a PPQ, and haven't shot a VP9, so I'm biased

I went through same process and went with the VP9. Both excellent handguns, just preferred the HK.

I have a VP9 and its my favorite pistol to shoot just so easy to handle. I've heard great things about the PPQ as well, I believe you couldn't go wrong with either one

Just go hold both and see which fits you hand better.

I have neither btw. I bought a Sig p320. Want a VP9 though.

Tomayto vs tomaahto

Very similar pistols. The HK has a few more bells and whistles - night sights, more grip options, etc.
Whether the 100+ price difference justifies that is debatable.
If money isn't an issue, go with the HK.
I'd recommend a trip to Precision Range to rent and shoot both of them.

FYI - I shoot both often and prefer the PPQ trigger.

I looked at both recently and ended up buying the HK P30. Just had a good feel in my hand and I use it for my CC gun.

Both listed are nice guns and the Walther does have a nice trigger. Don't think you can go wrong either way.

After shooting so many rounds out of my PPQ, I have found that I try and shoot other pistols using the same trigger pull method as my PPQ. About 1/3rd of the time, I don't let the trigger go forward enough to reset

2 best factory choices IMO.

Have a VP9, will get a PPQ soon.

Try shooting an LC9 right after shooting the PPQ

Bodyguard drove me nuts. I shot three magazines and quit

The Bodyguard is right up there with the Sigma - one of the few POS pistols made by S&W.

VP9/PPQ

There's my comparison video of the two guns.

Ultimately it's like splitting hairs - the two guns are almost identical in every facet. The thing that did it for me was that the VP9s sights blew away the PPQs. I couldn't stand the sight picture from the Walther. I shot alright with it but it wasn't nearly as comfortable as the VP9. Of course, this issue can be fixed with a new set of sights...

But you can't go wrong with either one. :Germany:

Somewhat unrelated but I have a USP 40 and I really wish I had gone with the P99.

Tangent:

Anyone have any thoughts/experiences with S&W SW1911 E series? Can get one for less than about $800...

I own one. (in my avatar)

An ancient Bapple review

It's been a pretty good shooter. Has seen tons of rounds. The notables after living with it for a while:

1. Hates hard shouldered, flat point, or semi wad cutter ammo. Might just be my particular 1911 but it's picky.

2. The factory sights weren't my favorite so I swapped them for Dawson Precision sights. (I do have a spare set of night sights if you buy the regular one though)

3. It isn't quite as reliable as the SR1911CMD I reviewed.

4. Has a pretty good factory trigger but not as good as that SR1911CMD

5. Fit and finish is very good. I also have the railed version and it's very trim and not bulky and dumb looking like the rail on Taurus 1911s.

6. I have never had issues with the external extractor. It has extracted everything and I think it's superior to a standard extractor.

7. I LOVE the fish scale serrations. They are very similar to the ones on my M&P. You get great traction and they aren't overly sharp. Just a great gripping surface.

8. The external extractor allows them to put serrations on the rear of the slide making it more unique.

9. The serrations on the top of the slide are a bitch to clean since they are so fine.

10. The barrel fits flush with the barrel bushing as opposed to hanging out of it. I doubt it makes a difference in accuracy but it's very good looking.

11. I replaced the full length guide rod and plug for a Wilson flatwound spring and standard plug. It probably doesn't change the reliability but it made it much easier to take apart.

12. That's all I've got...

That's what I do! The mind of an engineer has way too much detail so sometimes it's just alphabet diarrhea when it comes out.

You should have seen my spreadsheets when I was researching guns and trucks. Tires right now. It's stupid. I wish I would just not care sometimes.
