Both of them are Eastern Diamondbacks, and that second pic looks like it might be a pregnant female. The first one might have been a female which had just given birth 'cause it looks kind of skinny. Happy camping!

Sorry, I wasn't joking; Eastern Diamondbacks typically give birth around this time of year. (You can look it up if you don't believe me.)

Was the 2nd pic (1st snake seen--the lighter, fat one) taken at this time of year also?

A real man would grab each by the tail and whip their heads off!

I'll be standing back with the other sissies. Dang that makes me glad for snake boots.

Eastern diamondbacks are iconic. You should just be happy to see one, and watch where you step (which you should always do anyway). Think of it like having something cool, like an LSU bengal tiger living on your lease.

I know, I know, burn stuff down, yadda yadda. But, that's seriously what I'd do.

I did look it up last night & you are spot on re: time of year for births. Awesome.

1st pic was taken on December 6th.

I agree with you somewhat. That's why I stated I don't kill every snake I see, poisonous or not. If I saw either one of those in the "woods", they would get a pass from me unless I was in imminent danger.

I would hate for my lab to have an encounter with one of those, however.

I understand. As much as I love snakes and find them interesting, I don't want a rattlesnake living under my steps with my daughter and dog around. But, since I'm comfortable with them, I, personally, would relocate them rather than killing them. But, messing with snakes is how most people get bitten, so it's really not advisable for most people to do that.

One thing's for sure....
The area you describe where you hunt- has those bastards IN SPADES.
I worked that area numerous times the over the last 16 years (in the woods) and I always hated knowing those big suckers are laid up where I can't see them

Cowboys would put a rope around their bed to keep snakes out, you may need a big rope

Both are Diamond Backs.
1. Build a catapult
2 Hose pop up down with gasoline.
3. Ignite pop up
4. Launch that flaming mother into next week
5. Torch property and start over.
